2024 Mar 24 | Grenada mission trip - touring the island, volunteer training

The temperature in Grenada is very consistent.

They gave us these mosquito bracelets, although there didn't seem to be too many around even without them.

On Sunday they took us on a tour of parts of the island.

We stopped for lunch here.

Lots of good food.

They only took Grenada cash, no US cash nor credit cards.

What I picked.

The group out front.

A harbor.

Where the cruise ships dock.

Steep street ahead.

The office of Dr. Marryshow.

Street vendors.

The national stadium.

Another 50th anniversary painting.

Colorful wall.

Fun mural.

Lots of houses up the hill.

A goat.

Our driver stopped by his house and had his kid switch out his shoes.

Houses below, mountains above.

A coffee tree.

A banana tree.

A cocoa tree. Our driver said many people have so many fruits growing in their yards they don't need to buy them.

We stopped at the Annandale waterfall and park.

They had a little monkey.

Me interacting with him.

He knows to look into my pocket.

For money.

A video.

Parrots.

Down a short path is the waterfall.

People were jumping off of it.

From the side.

A restaurant there.

with a bar.

Lots of drink and food options.

Pretty flower.

Another one.

Driving up higher.

The view from the 1910 Lookout.

Zoomed in.

Me.

Us.

Our next stop was Grand Etang Lake.

A little dock.

Some fish.

They also use 911 as an emergency number.

A cat was wandering around.

I shared a bit of my lunch with him.

The gazebos were gifts from China.

Although it looks like they had been taken down.

It was a tight fit on some of the roads.

Pretty palm frond.

The house of our host.

Showing us around.

Downstairs.

Beautiful balcony.

Chatting.

Photo of Theophilus Albert Marryshow, an early politician in Grenada.

Time for training.

The doctors showed the volunteers how to use the equipment.

I discussed patient registration and history.

Dr. Maxwell Cheng showed them how to use the visual acuity charts.

Dr. Elizabeth Chen demonstrated the autorefractor.

Dr. Daphne Chan taught intraocular pressure measurement.

And Dr. Chee Hur covered dispensing.

Sunset from the balcony.

The time for dinner.

Me with one of the posters they put up to get patients.
