2024 Apr 03 | WPT Virgin Voyage - Prime tournament, Test Kitchen, Scarlet Night
Up early again, at 5:30am, and today there are even more people still playing than the previous morning. Seven total tables, six of $1/$3 and one of $2/$5.
I sat down and played at the $2/$5 a bit. There were a few players who were huge gamblers. One guy also left our table to go play at another table because a pretty young woman sat down at the other table and he wanted to go and chat with her.
One ordered a round of Fireball shots for everyone at the table.
My KK won a nice pot.
Mom and our cabin stewards are having a friendly conversation on the note pad on the door.
Oh boy, that's a bit too long.
There are coded messages on many of the floors by the elevators.
Lots of red stuff in one of the shops.
These playing cards are cool.
The coffee shop has many different types of tea.
And juice.
Coffee outside.
Monica taking pictures.
Her shadow reminds me of the ship logo.
Kinda similar.
Sunrise.
Which looks cool reflected in this multicolored glass.
A mural with small mirrors in it.
If we all line up just right, we can call be reflected in the mirrors.
Daily planner.
And back.
There are only a few sit-down restaurants open for breakfast.
Although all of The Galley locations are open.
We had breakfast at Razzle Dazzle.
They're vegetarian, but they have a few "naughty" meat items.
Cool salt and pepper and sugar containers.
All of us.
Soup.
Omelet.
Waffles and bacon.
Mushrooms.
It's much cheaper to play poker for Twizzlers in our cabin than play for money at the tables.
And I don't feel as bad when Ogii bluffs me with 72.
My schedule for the day.
Going to the Red Room for the Prime tournament.
They post the schedule of all of the tournaments. This one not only goes late today, it will continue tomorrow.
A lot of people playing. I'm at the top-left table, top-right in the red hat.
I also put on some red sunglasses when the cameras were around, although they made it a bit harder to differentiate the cards and chips.
This guy also had a fun outfit.
This one was very sparkly.
As was this one.
It's nice the app reminds you to come back from break.
An Ogii flop.
You want to keep track of how many big blinds you have as the blinds go up so you can play correctly.
I'm doing fairly well.
We had one guy at our table who seemed to be a YouTube celebrity or something. He was always raising huge, even with bad cards. So everyone was just waiting to get a decent hand to play against him and get his chips. It was finally my turn when I got JT suited and made two pair and we got all in. Unfortunately, he hit a gutshot straight draw on the river, which made me lose a lot of chips.
My last hand, I had a straight draw and a flush draw and lost to a set. You have to get lucky to win tournaments, and in these two hands, I didn't. A lot of the tournament pros were very disappointed when they got knocked out of a tournament here, but I didn't mind, as there was lots of fun stuff to do on the ship with the family rather than sit at a poker table all day today and tomorrow. It was still fun to play the tournament for a bit; everyone at the table, from the players to the dealers, were very fun and happy.
These guys are playing the $25,000 buy-in tournament. That's a bit out of our price range. Andrew Neeme is there; since he's a WPT sponsored pro, I wonder if they paid for all or some of his buy-in? I'd assume they at least gave him a free suite cabin on the ship.
These guy were the final table out of 293 of the championship tournament.
Lots of media around them. There's supposed to be a $19 afternoon tea with biscuits at the Sip champagne bar, but they didn't have it because of this tournament being there.
A lot of people playing cash.
Monica with some yucky organic "food" she likes.
This is more up my alley.
One of each, please.
They also had Nathan's hot dogs. I had heard they were good, but had never had one before.
They were right; the hot dog was great.
Mom getting some gummy candy to eat in the cabin.
The Dock also had some grab-and-go food sitting out.
A couple eating on the huge couch there.
I thought my daily outfit planning was a bit OCD, but Mom puts me to shame.
You can change the lights in the room with the tablet.
"Get it on" is red.
"Hangover..."
... is purple.
"Zen"...
...is blue and brighter.
I really love these hand sanitizer spriters. They're much better than the ones that squirt gel.
For dinner we ate at Test Kitchen. They gave out these slips to tournament players, and that was the only way to eat at the sit-down restaurants from when they opened to around 8pm. Which makes some sense; the tournament players have a very limited amount of time to eat during breaks, so they need to get in and out fast. But it was annoying if you weren't playing a tournament that day, as you couldn't eat in these restaurants until late at night.
Some kitchen staff.
Other seating.
I got the wine pairing, and Monica got the cocktail pairing.
Mom and Dad looking forward to their sauce.
The waiters poured all of the sauces for us.
All of us with a drink.
There are two different menus. The one we got is the one most people think is better.
Some corn thing, although it wasn't actually corn, just pressed into that shape.
Bread.
Serving trays filled with smoke.
Salmon underneath, with a sauce.
More wine.
And more.
Beetroot.
It's very pretty.
The drinks keep coming.
Lamb.
More drinks.
Asparagus.
Fruity drinks.
Just the drinks.
The red strawberry matches Monica's red hair and dress.
Strawberry desert.
Steve Lipscomb, the founder of the World Poker Tour, came over and introduced himself to us. That was really cool of him.
All of us in the mirrored entrance to The Manor.
Buying a bottle of Dom Perignon.
To drink during Scarlet Night.
I don't need a champagne flute.
Staff members dancing.
The diva singing.
People watching.
There was also karaoke here.
The Scarlet Night party was held around the Social Club. In the hallway there, a bunch of people formed a tunnel and cheered people who walked through to dance.
Us by the Red Room.
The Prime tournament is still going on. I'd much rather be at the Scarlet Night party than still playing poker, so I don't think I'm going to play any more tournaments; they take too long and get in the way of too many other fun events on the ship. Maybe I'll play some cash games if I can fit them in between ship activities and there isn't too long of a wait list.
