2024 Apr 04 | WPT Virgin Voyage - VHS workout, Key West diversion, secret magic show

Today's plan. I was thinking we might play some more poker tournaments, but I'd rather do the other events on the ship.

Some birds above the ship.

It looks like there are still a few poker games going at 4:30am.

Three tables. There were a few of us who wanted to play, but the floorman said they're not allowing new players as they will be closing the tables soon. There's no port stop today, so the dealers probably just need to get some sleep before working again later today.

They had a nice fabric bag we could stuff a bunch of laundry on. The one we got on NCL was a paper one that tore easily.

The launrdy was $30 or $50 if you wanted it back that night.

Another thing I loved about Virgin is there is always great dance music being played.

According to this sign, they have IV therapy for hangovers at the medical center.

"Mermaid for each other?" What does that mean? After a bit of Googling, I found out it's a pun: "We mermaid for each other."

Rainbow lights by the pool.

Ogii demonstrating a little flag you can put up to get service at The Galley.

Ogii showing her dad where our cabin is on the ship.

I had wanted to play this tournament, but I'm glad I didn't, because it looks like it went late into the night.

Same with this tournament, which was the one I had gotten knocked out of fairly early.

Poker tables ready to go.

The upper viewing section of the Red Room is really cool looking.

One of the private karaoke rooms.

We had to re-route to Key West due to a medical emergency. It's pretty much on our way, so it won't affect our schedule too much. I guess that's cheaper than sending a helicopter? Although I wonder how much gas the cruise ship uses to go out of the way.

They have to turn off all of the casino machines when we get close to port.

Someone was paid 9 out cents on this one.

You can play craps for $1 to $500.

Cool windows in the casino; they look like camera apertures.

When you got done playing poker at night, it was often easier to just chip up into the fewer large denomination chips and keep them rather than waiting in a huge line to cash out.

Ooh, a picture scavenger hunt. That might be fun.

These aren't too hard to do.

But some of these seem nearly impossible, so I don't think I'm going to bother.

The Videos, Headbands, Simmons (VHS) workouts had been cancelled earlier in the cruise, likely because the room was still being used for poker, but they had it today.

Ogii, Mom, and me in our red workout clothes.

The instructors were in 80s workout outfits.

Like the Grog Walk, usually this activity is packed, but all of the gamblers are sleeping after being up all night, so there were under ten of us.

Monica was upstairs and got some pictures of us.

And the instructors.

Time to use Shake Weights, although those weren't around in the 80s.

Leg lifts.

From my view.

Us with the instructors afterwards.

Poker is delayed due to the diversion. They have a ton of tournaments today, so they all get pushed back.

The Charmer had a little magic show.

Everyone really enjoyed it.

I went mainly because I had read if you went to this show, you could get an invite to the secret magic show, and I did.

People painting the mirror mural.

Docking at Key West.

The ambulance.

Lots of people were out watching. Not much going on in the ship right now.

Some little islands.

Lots of boats.

Naval ship Spearhead, which is for high-speed, shallow-draft cargo transport.

Ogii with a plane above.

There were a few spotting scopes on the ship. Let's see if we can find some landmarks.

Lighthouse.

Which means the Southernmost Point of the Continental US should be right about here.

Zoomed in a bit on our phone looking through the spotting scope.

There was a dodgeball tournament in the late afternoon.

Vince Van Patten was out exercising, too. He was a tennis pro for a bit, so it's make sense he'd still stay in shape.

Ogii on one of the funky chairs.

All different types of fruit in the water.

Mushroom and brie or squid ink, salmon, and dill flatbreads; not for me.

Soup.

Sandwiches.

Made fresh.

Eating at "our" table on the back deck.

Aw, we missed the pool party at Scarlet Night.

Not playing yet, although people are already signing up.

Time to play. It took a few minutes for them to get players to our table.

Right by some windows. Unfortunately I didn't see any whales or dolphins.

Everyone threw in $10, the dealer dealt out all the cards without anyone playing, and whoever won the hand got the money for a massage. That's a fun idea.

The biggest hand I played. I ended up with four of a kind, and my opponent had a full house.

A lot of people playing.

And a lot of people waiting to play.

One of the expensive tournaments. Looks like Andrew Neeme is rather bored.

I saw this dealer with the big red beard in the expensive tournaments a lot. He must be a very good dealer.

These sandals are cool; they have a logo on the bottom.

Daily events.

Back.

Dinner.

At our table.

Lots of good stuff.

The time for ice cream.

It's nice that it's free.

Gotta show off the shoes, too.

Sunset.

With the Icon of the Seas.

Neat clouds.

Ogii and Monica working on a jigsaw puzzle.

The high-roller turbo tournament.

But instead of playing poker, we're headed to the secret magic show. Mom, Dad, and Monica meet someone with a funny hat near the atrium.

While Ogii and I followed the woman with the skull-topped cane. Although I remembered Mya from the Grog Walk, so it wasn't too hard.

We went down some hallways.

Through the crew area.

Where some of them were sleeping, so have to be quiet.

To the front of the ship for the secret magic show. It was our family and only one other guy, so very small group.
