2024 Apr 13 | Anniversary, Los Angeles for work, preparing moving sale
If the bags are over 50 pounds, you get charged. This one just made it.
A little more leeway here.
Leaving San Antonio.
Blow-up clouds.
Two different types of chargers in the seats. That's helpful; we don't have any of the older, larger USB cords any more.
Big canyon.
Las Vegas strip.
The northern strip, with Stratosphere.
The middle of the strip, with the Sphere on the right.
Mountains.
I think this might be Yosemite Valley, with El Capitan in the middle and Yosemite Falls on the right.
Observatory above San Jose.
This field always had llamas, but then they were gone for a while. They're back, now.
Shredding lots of documents at FedEx before we move.
We were going to one last art show to sell the sunset prints we had left, so we ordered a new credit card reader, re-applied for a seller's permit, etc.
But then it was cancelled due to weather.
The following weekend, we were planning on going down to Irvine for a CE meeting. However, that also was canceled. I guess we'll have more time to prepare to move now.
Ogii bought us shirts for our ninth anniversary.
Some presents for each other.
Openened.
A watch hand-made in Austria using koa wood from Maui for me.
A necklace of the four major Hawaiian islands for Ogii.
A volcano card.
Which plays music and lights up.
Watching our anniversary movie. We noticed the Coke cans have the older ridged design at the top, like they still do in Hawaii.
On Friday, I flew down to Los Angeles. The cataract surgeon I had worked with needed someone to see his post-op patients for a day as he was away and asked me to do it. Southwest flies to and from San Jose and Burbank every day, so I took that flight. It's only a bit faster than driving, though, once you include the time to drive to the airport, wait at the airport, and then drive from the airport. Thankfully these flights are pretty cheap. The flight there wasn't very full; only a few people per row.
Fog over the hills.
Larger areas.
Around the hills.
We deplaned from the front and the back, which saves a few minutes.
One problem with Burbank airport is the rental cars are a long walk away.
And a lot of the walk is outside. Good thing it wasn't raining.
Down this hallway.
More hallway.
And there.
No line here.
About a 30-minute drive to downtown LA from Burbank, which is a bit faster than from LAX.
I couldn't find the car because I couldn't find the section it was listed in on my sheet, so I walked around then entire lot. Finally I asked someone, and they had put it right up front so it would be fast for me. That backfired.
It was electric, but thankfully they said I didn't need to charge it before returning it because I wasn't driving very far.
Downtown LA.
A quick breakfast at this McDonald's by Home Depot.
There are only kiosks to take your order. The people only make the food.
People selling breakfast outside the Home Depot to sell to the day laborers there.
Neat light panels in the elevator of the medical building.
A short morning of seeing patients.
Then back to Burbank airport.
I like the different planes on the tower mural.
These people were in shorts, but it definitely wasn't shorts weather; it was quite cool.
Eating lunch without Ogii is a problem. We both usually eat half, so there's way too much food for just me.
Back onto the plane.
This one was much fuller.
Goodbye Los Angeles.
Hello San Jose.
Ogii got a cake.
Working on her puzzle.
Pieces cut into animal shapes.
One final piece.
She saved the sea turtle for last.
Deciding what to take to Hawaii and what to sell here. All the big stuff is getting sold.
Which includes both beds.
And this heavy pot.
I really loved these t-shirts, I got them for free at Malibu Rum parties in Los Angeles, but they're a bit too old and worn out now.
While I'm keeping some of the smaller optometry equipment, I'm selling the big stuff.
This, too. Along with smaller equipment I don't use or have duplicates of.
Also selling all of the videogame systems.
And games.
And weights.
Those would be too heavy to ship over.
Selling the printer, although I want to keep it until the last few days as we might use it for mailing labels and such.
Selling the couches. They're comfortable, but they have lots of tears along the edges.
Exercise bike.
I love my Herman Miller Aeron chair, but it's too expensive to ship, so that's getting sold as well. I sold the bigger items like this that we can get more money for online.
The smaller stuff we'll sell at a moving sale. These little stickers are perfect for that.
Everything in the pantry.
Dishes.
More.
I love this microwave I got in Los Angeles, but it's getting sold, too.
All of this stuff.
All of these books.
TV.
Smaller furniture.
Stuff in the garage.
More on the other side.
Since we're not selling the sunset photography prints at the art show, I'll try to sell some online locally first.
