2024 Apr 21 | moving sale
We're finishing up all of the deer sausage, deer jerky, and pheasant.
Car with a really cool wrap to look like granite by Ogii's work.
My moving sale todo list.
I thought about putting an ad in the local newspaper for the moving sale, but there isn't a single garage sale, rummage sale, or moving sale ad in the current one. Everyone simply posts them on Craigslist and Facebook marketplace now.
Getting some thick paper at the hardware store to put down in the garage to set our items on.
And also a moving sale sign.
Rather than sell all of the videogame systems and games and accessories separately, I took them to a used videogame store in Santa Cruz so I could sell them all in one batch to make it easier. There was this neat mural nearby.
And this interesting vehicle.
It took them a few hours to test everything, but once they did, I came back and they gave me what seemed like a reasonable amount of money for them. There were a lot of items.
Driving back home. This cyclist has a flag sticking out. Maybe if you're that worried, don't bike on the major roads?
When we first went to Santa Cruz, we noticed these crooked trees. The next time I went, I pointed them out, and Ogii said we already saw them. From then on, every time we went to Santa Cruz, we'd point them out as a joke. This was my last chance to text a picture of them to her.
We sold one of my photography prints online.
The person likes it.
Taking the beds apart to sell. This one was very easy.
Do I have to take all of those screws out?
Nope, just lift up the side piece. Very easy, too.
This family came to buy the beds.
So we have to use a blow-up bed for the next few nights.
They're replacing all of the roofs in our neighborhood, and the roofers leave their machines in this parking area overnight. That's a bit of a pain because now there's much less space for people coming to our moving sale to park.
We had to go through everything and decide what to throw away and what to keep. I had printed my resume on this nice, thick, textured paper years ago; maybe keep a few of these.
Everything ready to sell in the garage.
In the living room.
In the dining area.
Clothes in the bedroom.
I pulled all of the weeds out of the plants.
One last batch of chocolate chip muffins.
The TV, ladders, and tools went quickly. We had said it started at 8am, but people started showing up at 7am. It would have been a bit awkward to tell them to wait and sit there until 8am, but that means all of the good stuff is gone by the time the people who follow the rules and show up at 8am arrive.
More people showing up.
Some people got a bunch of items.
And some only wanted one or two. A few people even messaged me to save something specific for them, like this guy who wanted the signed football player posters we bought at a charity auction.
This guy took the plants.
Ogii was in charge of the money. We had a bunch of people from 7am to 9am, then almost nobody after that for a while.
A few items just barely fit into people's vehicles. I helped them with the bigger stuff. I kept a few tools, like a hammer and screwdriver, to help break down some of the furniture, but I forgot to keep hex sets, which a lot of pieces needed. So note to self: keep the hex sets.
We even sold a few of the photography prints, although for much, much less than what we'd sell them for at an art show.
Ogii would wrap them up to protect them.
A lot of stuff is gone.
Although none of the books. I guess nobody buys real books any more.
A few different people took a lot of the kitchen supplies.
I was planning to put the garage sale sign out around 7am, but since people were already showing up, I didn't have time to put it up. Hopefully nobody couldn't find the place. A ton of people did show up, so I guess Google Maps worked fine.
Another guy ended up buying a lot of the photography prints. For less than we even paid to print them, so we actually lost money, but good to just to get rid of them. It'd be more of a pain to store them somewhere.
One nice thing about the rolls of paper was it made it easy to pull everything into the garage after we were done.
Nobody wanted this lunch box.
Ogii has used it these past years and duct-taped it all up on the inside as it was falling apart.
We had more items we wanted to take with us, so I bought some more boxes to mail them.
Everything we want to keep.
And also keeping a lot of stuff in this room.
I had originally ordered this banner from FedEx printing to be used at the art show. When that got canceled, we kept it for our home sale on Saturday. On Sunday, I updated the Craigslist and Facebook ads to have everything for free. Just come and pick it up so we don't have to deal with it.
A lot of people wanted the hammock for free, although nobody was willing to pay for it yesterday.
Everything that's left.
I had an online CE meeting. I set up here so I could keep an eye on the free stuff, just in case anyone had any questions.
A fair number of people showed up.
That got rid of even more stuff.
We left the rest outside for the evening, just in case anybody else wandered by and wanted something.
Still, nobody wants books.
This person called and wanted a few things set aside for her, but then she never showed up.
I've moved this Ikea bookcase around multiple times.
So many that the areas the screws go into have worn away. It's probably not safe to keep using, so we'll throw it away.
Like everything else nowadays, it needs an allen wrench.
Nobody wanted the Transformers standee, but when I put it on Facebook marketplace, a guy came over to buy it.
He had a bunch of other 80s toys in his truck, so either he collects those or he sells them. Either way, glad it went to someone with a special interest in it.
