2024 May 06 | looking for condos, Cinco de Mayo

Using my laptop on the lanai.

My new watch had stopped. I wonder if it just needs a new battery or if it's something else?

There's a watch repair shop nearby. I'll walk over and have them take a look.

Well, it's not really a shop, just a guy who comes down. But he fixed it. He said it was a problem with the gasket, which is common in hand-made watches.

This set of highrises is a bit out of town and looks into a valley.

These two stand up with nobody else around.

We drove over to west coast to check out some open houses.

Selling food out of their car.

Mural of faces.

This one was in Waianae. Since we're out of Honolulu, there are more houses in our price range instead of only condos.

Back yard.

Upstairs living room.

Lanai with a view of the beach.

Huge garage.

A nearby townhome.

Also with a backyard.

Kitchen.

They have an outdoor shower to use if you come back from the beach.

Although not as good of a view as they're lower.

Aquatic mural.

The beach there.

It's very empty.

Nobody around.

Which is completely different from Honolulu.

Local grocery store.

Fairly well stocked.

Fishing.

There are a lot of homeless here.

More.

And more.

Car mural.

Lunch at L & L Drive-Inn.

Only one other family eating here.

The garbage can is an old washer.

Next we checked out a unit in the Makaha Beach Cabanas.

It looks like a lot of people only come here part-time and leave their covered cars here when they're away.

Great view of the valley from the front door. One of Ogii's relatives owns a condo in the units in the valley.

Inside.

A Murphy bed for guests.

Small bathroom.

Bedroom.

The lanai is right on the beach. This unit had the best views far and away, both of the mountains and the beach, but it's an hour from Honolulu and there are a lot of homeless and meth addicts in this general area.

To the south.

To the north.

Shared laundry.

Outdoor showers for the beach.

They're going to be repainting and have three color options for the residents to choose from.

BBQ area.

Back in Honolulu at Pearl Regency.

Living room.

Lanai.

Decent view of Pearl Harbor.

Kapiolani Manor.

Living room.

Lanai.

It's near some Japanese and Korean supermarkets.

Views of the mountains.

Rooftop patio.

With views of the ocean to the west.

And Diamond Head to the south.

Checking out the supermarkets.

Don Quijote.

Many Japanese items.

Happy mural.

Near the Street Food Market.

Although that spot was being used for a Cindo de Mayo celebration today.

Food vendors.

Lots of people.

Neat outfits.

A family.

Some cars.

Another one.

Ogii cooking.

We watched Fallout mini-series on Amazon. It was pretty good.

Another possible worry about the condos right on the beach on the western shore are that erosion might take out the beach.

Or embezzlement.

I wanted something to put my laptop on my lap more comfortably, and this lap desk was cheap on Facebook Marketplace from a university student.

It works perfectly, and only $10.

These condos had leased the Trump name, although they stopped that a few years ago and are now the Ka La'i Waikiki Beach. However, some places still call them the Trump Tower.

Even the studios are quite expensive, and it's mostly studios available.

Although there are some large units.

I love the red cabinets in the kitchen and the stone in the bathroom.

They have decent lanais as well.

These two units in the same building are similar, but it's about $1000 more per month for a canal view versus a city view.

Foreclosures and short sales, although they're still mostly pretty expensive. There is one for $1, though.

I wonder if the condos with the red marker above them had a view of the canal before the tall blue condos blocked their view?

Checking out drive times. At 8am, it's about 40 minutes from the western cities to Pearl City.

About 30 minutes from Pearl City to downtown Honolulu.

About 30 minutes to the southwest cities from Honolulu.

And about an hour to the northern cities from Honolulu.
