2024 May 23 | shaka plate, moving from Waikiki AirBnB to Waikiki condo

Ogii's breakfast in the morning.

Someone was cleaning the condo above us, and they sprayed a lot of water and dirt / sand down onto our balcony from theirs.

Sweeping it all up.

Bird on our balcony.

Picked up another box that came in to USPS. A little torn on the side, but nothing fell out.

Palm tree on door.

The Waikiki Brewing Company is right by us.

They're open early for Sunday football games.

We had BBQ.

And a brownie for dessert.

A man playing bagpipes in the park.

The condo on the left has an entrance to the roof. I wonder if they're actually allowed to go out onto that?

Having to wait a bit for the elevators at International Marketplace to be fixed.

I stopped at Liliha Bakery.

To grab some donuts.

They also have mochi donuts, which we love, but unfortunately only one flavor: poi.

Cupcakes, too.

I took the donuts to the USPS employees when I picked up the last package we had shipped from California.

Nothing we mailed from California got lost or damaged.

The estimated shipping was about a week. A few got there that fast, most took two weeks, and a few took three weeks.

The garbage truck is loud at 5:30am.

The sun reflecting off Waikiki Landmark.

And the Bank Of Hawaii building.

Hawaii is introducing a new license plate with a shaka symbol on it.

Eating at Rock Island Cafe.

Which has an old-school diner vibe.

The side of an old car.

Tasty diner food.

Ogii on a car seat.

Very Asian car.

Getting the car inspection done on the Prius.

Murals on a school.

You can see the reflections of fireworks on the bottom-left

There's a big one.

On the mainland you'll sometimes see multiple Amazon or Walmart trucks; here you'll see multiple ABC trucks.

I bought a new screwdriver to replace the Prius license plates, but I didn't have a knife to cut open the packaging. Ogii had bought an emergency tool, though, and the seatbelt cutter worked.

Setting up the shaka sign.

The driver license office is separate from the license plate office. We had only made an appointment at one, but there wasn't much of a wait, so we got into the other one quickly.

At the window to get the new license plate for the Prius.

And it has a shaka!

Steve Sue is leading Project Shaka and was there to get pictures with people getting the new plate.

Their website is https://projectshaka.com/

Then over to the driver license side for a short wait.

Ogii getting her eyes tested. In California, they yelled at you if you smiled for your drivers license photo; here, they encouraged it.

A woman putting her new shaka plate on her Jeep.

Cool truck.

The news car is bright green, making it easy to spot.

With the new shaka plate on and the old California plate off.

The screwdriver of the woman whose car was beside the Prius wasn't working, so I let her use mine.

They're having fun with it.

It turns out she's Rebecca Teresia, the associate producer of the Shaka movie: https://shakafilm.com/

They had said there would be a group picture of people with their new plates, so we waited around a bit for that.

Steve discussing Project Shaka.

Lots of media was there.

A video Ogii got of the group.

And a photo.

A funny gas tank cover.

Packing up all of out stuff to move.

Into our new place.

With great views...

...of the ocean...

... and the moutains...

... and Diamond Head.

Looking straight out from the balcony.

And looking down.

Looking down from the other side is the pool.

Very clean living room.

And very fast internet.

Mural of a wave.

Another one.

Stopping at City Mill, a local hardware store.

To pick up a few tools.

The store has been around since 1899.

No returns for hurricane items.

Disaster preparation booklet.

Using our new tools to put the wheels on the cart.

To haul our boxes up.

Recycling area.

No 13th floor. No 5th floor either, but I think that's because the pool is on the 6th floor and goes down into that area.

Some dragon boats on the canal.

They use these docks.

A few people getting off.

Lots of hangers.

Clean bathroom.

And nook.

Washer and dryer.

Open kitchen.

We can serve food directly to the balcony through this window.

Someone with two small dogs in the elevator.

I saw this portable air condioner while shopping at the thrift stores.

Only $20.

Let's see what the specs are.

They're around $200 to $300 new.

It's missing a hose.

Although those are only $20. I'm not sure if it works, though, and we don't really need it as the cross breeze keeps our place cool.

They have them at Best Buy, too.

Much more expensive.

We wanted a new Roku. There are multiple versions.

This monitor is huge.

I like the review for the Costco food court.

Picking up all of our boxes from the storage unit.

They just barely fit into the Prius, along with a pizza from Costco.

You can request an elevator be only for your use for a few hours when moving in or out, but since our condo was fully furnished, we only needed to bring a few items, like clothes, and no large furniture, so we didn't have to do that.

The baseball and basketball courts are lit up at night.

The city to the east only goes into the mountains in some areas. I wonder if the sections without houses are too difficult to build on or if there is some other reason.

There are two entrances to the garage. They close this one at night.

One of the neighbors below us has balcony lights.

Which isn't nearly as many as on The Waipuna, but it's better than none.

Peace on earth.

One final sweep of the AirBnB.

You can see many pools of different sizes for the different buildings from our new place.

The shell wall art lights up.
