2024 Jun 15 | Hawaii State Fair

At the Hawaii State Fair, you have to buy a card, which you use to pay for rides, games, and food.

There was a long line for these automated machine, but if you had cash, you could pay $50 for a preloaded one and skip the line, which is what we did.

A guy on stilts with a huge basketball and hoop.

People would shoot the basket into the hoop.

Although he'd cheat a bit and lower the front of the basket if it wasn't going to go in.

Games and food.

Rides.

The sling shot is always fun to watch.

Mostly for the riders' reactions.

A kiddie coaster.

Pizza.

Hot dogs.

Country singers.

They were pretty good.

There was also a petting zoo.

Pigs.

Llamas and donkeys.

Rabbits.

Geese.

A Ferris wheel and other rides.

Desserts.

Food.

Chicken.

These massive blow-up hammers were popular.

Nice sunset.

The central area was set up for the Flying Cortes trapeze.

A tiny girl was part of the family.

Rolling through some hula hoops.

Aerialist.

With hula hoops.

Then time for the trapeze.

The whole family.

I wonder if they patch the holes left by the metal pegs used to hold up the trapeze structure.

When we first arrived, there was almost no line for the sling shot. Now it's huge.

The moon above the sling shot.

Doing some math to figure out what each credit on our card is worth. The admission cost 120 credits, or $12.

Now we have to figure out what we can get for food. Not this combination of items; we're short by 20 credits.

I'm not feeling the pizza.

We got a hot dog, a drink...

... and chicken strips and fries.

More singers.

Ogii sneaking another peek at the petting zoo.

We don't have enough credits left for any dessert.

Maybe they'd sell some of the gummy bears normally used for shave ice toppings to us? Although their registers are probably all preset for only certain items.

I used to enjoy rides like this, but the bigger ones where you could turn yourself all around and upside down because the centrifugal force held you against the wall. You're locked into place on this one.

This one spins sideways.

Onto the carnival games alley.

Fishing.

Balloon popping.

I think you have to hold the stick from the other end so you can get the ring farther to the other side, but maybe this guy knows what he's doing.

The annoying thing about the carnival games is that they weren't priced at even increments of five.

So you'd have leftover credits unless you planned it out.

They won a lot of snakes.

One last slingshot ride viewing.

Up.

And down.

The rides are all lit up now.

A video of some of the rides and entertainment.

A Colorado plate in the parking lot.

And a yota on the drive home.
