2024 Jun 29 | Marico and her daughter visit: Hanauma Bay, Haleiwa Art Festival

Ogii's previous coworker in LA and her daughter are coming to visit. They want to go to Hanauma Bay, so we do the insane 7am rush to try to get tickets.

A few still available at 7:01.

All sold out in a few minutes, but we got some.

Then have to get them some leis when we pick them up at the airport. There are many lei stands there.

We got some leis from Gladys and her father.

Very pretty and nice-smelling plumeria, one red/pink and the other yellow/white.

We ate dinner at Genius Lounge. It's on an upper floor of this building.

Oyster Hale is on a lower floor.

Fun mural by the steps.

A bull terrier statue.

Hawaiian popcorn.

Spam katsu with macadamia nut sauce.

Skewered ribeye steak.

Hawaiian chocolate brownie and li hing mui mojito.

Pretty sunrise.

Printing some presidential debate bingo cards.

A couple different websites had them.

We'll see which was is the best.

Horrible debate. Trump didn't answer any questions and talked about whatever he wanted, and Biden seemed completely out of it and seemed to spend too much brain power poorly remembering specific stats rather than talking about general ideas.

We at least got one bingo.

A neat building.

It's not very high, so the other skyscrapers block its views, but the balconies look very nice.

We put a little dish under the plumeria planter to catch water that comes out through the drain hole, but the water also seems to seep out between all of the wood sections. I guess we need to get a large dish to cover the entire bottom.

Rainbow.

I drove Marico and her daughter to Hanauma Bay. On the way, we stopped at Leonard's Donuts for some malasadas.

And also McDonald's for a bit more breakfast. They serve spam there.

The parking lot sign says full, but they were still letting cars in and there were still open spaces in the parking lot.

Waiting to enter.

A short lecture.

The we can go down.

There's an info hut.

With pictures of the sea life you might see.

They can answer any questions you have.

Hazardous creatures.

More fish.

And even more.

It was very windy; many groups had to leave one person in their spot just to hold onto their umbrella.

I think these tent / beach tent shades are better as you can stake them down more.

Going into the water.

Snorkeling together.

Ogii's mask worked well.

Unfortunately, the clip came off of my new fins.

Also, my mask wasn't sealing well and the underwater phone case resulted in very blurry pictures.

Another view from the top.

New Corvette.

With a fun license plate.

When I moved to LA, I got used to having sand in my vehicle from the beach. Time for that again.

Ogii made dinner.

Some great bread from the farmer's market.

All of us having dinner, along with Reverend Kanai and Kumiko.

Watching fireworks.

I bought me some t-shirts from Into The AM, and I love them. They're super soft and very well made. They're having a 30% off 4th of July sale and also have some shirts on clearance, so I thought I'd buy some more.

Most of the clearance ones were black, which look neat, but are too hot to wear in Hawaii during the day, so I mostly bought lighter-colored ones.

Many of them also have large images on the front, which I don't really like. I prefer the small image on the front near where the pocket would be and a larger image on back. I bought six shirts on sale.

One of my favorite displays of the family in a vehicle: sandals.

Mississippi license plate.

We drove to Haleiwa for the Art Festival there.

Surfer license plate.

New Mexico.

Washington DC.

WWII memorial.

Many plants around it.

A beach.

Many vendors.

Live music.

Kids area.

A huge tree.

Acrylic and wood vendor.

Neat mini surfboards.

Carved wood.

Paintings.

Many waves.

More wood and acrylics.

Skateboards.

Even more wood and acrylic art; this is quite popular.

As are the surfboard shapes.

Stone engravings.

Minimalistic paintings.

Colorful paintings.

Down the next row.

Painted surfboards.

Photography.

These are amazing. Great composition, very sharp, and very colorful.

Drummers.

Metal sculptures.

Paintings.

Photography.

I like the "ALOHA" written on the beach, with a turtle for the "O."

Large paintings.

This artist adds pigment on top of the photos to make them sparkle.

Papasan chairs to hang out in.

Couches.

Smaller paintings.

Food vendors on the side.

Cooking meat.

More.

Lots of fire.

Some large rain clouds floated over.

It rained very heavily. Some people waited under the canopies; we took refuge under a tree.

The kids climbed up in it.

Navy band.

A small palm tree on the beach.

Pennsylvania.

Crossing a small bridge.

Still a lot of traffic headed towards the festival.

It looks like there's a little weather station or something on top of the mountain.
