2024 Aug 09 | Hawaii Massage Clinic, HFBF farmer's market, Ogii presents, Top of Waikiki on LoopNet
Next present.
A bracelet.
Many more presents from the parents.
Ogii had to open at least one early. Some nice bags Ogii wants to use to pack for our next cruise.
These people were deeply into their phones while walking on the sidewalk.
We walked to the Hawaiian Massage Clinic.
You can get massages from students or pay more for instructors. They also have a discount for kama'aina.
They're in a multi-use building on multiple floors.
My masseuse was pretty new to English and had a little notebook for the phrases she used, translated from Chinese. The massages were good.
How can ABC have all of these different pain relievers and other drugs but no ibuprofen?
Lobster tails were on sale, so we tried those.
Still not a fan. I preferred the potstickers.
Next present.
Earrings.
Just the edges of the clouds are lit up at sunrise.
Along the entire cloud.
Four helicopters together.
Ogii went to Landmark for her dental exam and cleaning.
The whale family mural nearby.
Both buildings together.
This parking lot is for sale. I bet they want a lot of money for it.
It's only been a few days since the "Trump is weird" quote by Tim Walz, and it's already on products on Amazon.
Someone even got the domain name.
Although it redirects to "weird" at the Merriam-Webster thesaurus. I wonder if they actually bought the domain? Or if someone is squatting on it and just sends you here instead for now.
If you include his first name...
... someone is just squatting on it.
If you abbreviate "is"...
... this one is already using Printify to sell shirts, hats, bags, stickers, etc with the saying on it.
Next present.
A ring.
Another shaka plate.
Some political supporters at a corner.
I dropped off Ogii at her physical therapy appointment.
And then went grocery shopping at a nearby Whole Foods.
It says these birds have just as much outdoor space as they do indoors. According to Whole Foods, "Outdoor Access" means "birds must have access to an outdoor area that is at least equivalent to the area of the house." More restrictive is Cage-Free Plus, and more free is Pasture Raised and then Outdoor Living. Some people claim these eggs taste better because the eggs are fresher and the birds eat a wider variety of foods.
I love the fruit and nut breads at Whole Foods, too.
And you get a 10% discount with an Amazon Prime account. I haven't tried the palm payment yet, though.
Whole Foods is near the Blaisdell Arena, which on Wednesdays has the HFBF / Honolulu Farmers Market. This was the first farmer's market we went to after we moved, although it was in a different parking lot then.
Lots of fruit.
Meat. He said the axis deer venison isn't as gamey as whitetail deer; I bought a pound, so we'll see. From what I've read, there are axis deer on Molokai, Maui and Lanai, and black-tailed deer on Kauai. You can purchase a license on your own for $20 for residents, $125 for non-residents, and you can hunt on your own or go with one of the hunting companies. There's also no season; it's year round. Oahu and Big Island don't have deer but do have sheep, goat, and pig hunting.
I wanteed Alfredo's Italian the last time we went, but we ended up getting other food. This time I'm definitely getting this.
He reminds me of the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld; he's very picky about how people order and interact with him, but the great food makes it worth it. He seems to be quite short with people, although he says he's hard of hearing and often has his back turned to people when he's cooking, and since he works alone and keeps his gloves on all the time, he only takes cash, not cards.
Produce.
Lots of fresh fruit.
Back to pick up our Italian.
A huge amount of amazing food.
The bread and desserts from Whole Foods are awesome, too.
They also have great chips, including tortilla (the same ones I liked in California and can't find anywhere else here) and vegetable.
I saw Top of Waikiki restaurant show up on LoopNet as available for lease.
It closed in 2021 due to COVID.
It and La Ronde (in Ala Moana) were both revolving restaurants in Oahu.
La Ronde was renamed Windows of Hawaii, and then closed as a restaurant in the 1990s. It no longer revolves and is offices now.
But Top of Waikiki still revolves.
It includes the main floor for customers.
And the floor below for food prep.
Beautiful view.
Looking at old menus, it had pretty general steak and seafood.
A Prix Fixe menu.
Some pics of the food.
Appetizers.
Entrees.

Desserts. Ogii has some restaurant experience from being the operations manager and accountant of Koi in Los Angeles. Koi serves Japanese fusion food, which would go well in Hawaii, so we thought about contacting them and seeing if they would want to lease Top of Waikiki and hire Ogii as general manager. However, that would be riskier and more work for probably less money, and Ogii likes her current job, so we decided against it. But it would be cool to say you run the revolving restaurant.
The hotels on Waikiki put up a ton of umbrellas and chairs on the beaches each morning for their guests. They won't be allowed to do that any more.
Just like in many other locations, house and condo insurance rates are increasing dramatically.
Next present.
Jellyfish earrings.
Rainbow.
Someone online mentioned Bowmaster Prelude. I remember playing that years ago. I like the online games you can beat in a few hours.
Next present.
Sea turtle bracelet.
A bit of rain over Diamond Head at sunrise.
Long clouds.
Figuring out the outlets on the Norwegian Dawn for our upcoming cruise. There's usually a video or two of your exact stateroom on YouTube, which helps. It looks like one UK and one US plug by the mirror.
We have an EU converter but not a UK one.
They're cheap on Amazon, though, and have multiple output types.
Picking up pizza from ili ili Cash & Carry.
Inside.
Large pizzas and tasty garlic balls.
A birthday cake for Ogii.
Candles all lit.
Blowing them out.
Got them all.
This rainbow looks like it's landing on the red top of that building.
Us with it.
Ala Wai Dog Park.
It has a larger area.
And a smaller one.
The dogs seem to love running around and meeting each other.
These side condos are neat; they have 270-degree balconies.
The sun lighting up the edges of the clouds.
And the undersides of the larger ones to the side.
