2024 Sep 06 | East End Hot Rod Car Show

The upper flower is just starting to part.

On Labor Day, we went to the East End Hot Rod Car Show. It was in the Hawaii Kai Costco parking lost as the store was closed for the holiday.

An older car and a newer car.

Purple pickup.

A few people checking out the cars, and a few people sitting by their cars.

The back tires are wider than Ogii.

Tall engine.

I don't think a Cybertruck really fits the theme.

Beautiful black matte paint job.

Cool engine.

Another tall one.

Long pipes out the side.

A Steyr-Puch Pinzgauer from Austria.

Many cars, not too many people.

Yellow.

Lifted.

The skeletons add a fun touch.

With a drive-in tray and food.

Love the paint job on this one.

More flames.

Even more.

Very sparkly.

Tiny wheels in front.

A beach buggy.

With a skull.

Tiny car.

There's a little gazebo.

Which looks out at the little pond.

Ogii bought me this historical fiction book of Hawaii. It's really good, and I looked into the author, James Michener. He wrote other similar books, where he starts from long ago (in Hawaii's case, the formation of the islands out of lava in the sea) to modern times. Most reviews say his history is very accurate; he did a lot of research and consulted with historians.

The first flower in this group.

A circle rainbow.

There are CE trips around the world.

This one is to Africa.

But cruises are more than half of the price, so even if you can write off part of the CE cost, the cruises are still cheaper, not to mention longer with stops at more locations.

The other buds are getting close.

Starting to unfurl.

Diamond Head and Foodland, two Hawaii staples.

Whole Foods has BBQ which smells amazing.

And great bread.

A small take-out restaurant at the store.

Neat gate.

Plants.

This one matches the front door.

We stopped at Da Ono Hawaiian Food restaurant.

It's pretty small.

Ogii with our food.

Beef stew, kalua pork, haupia (coconut pudding), poi, lomi salmon, and rice.

Haupia pie for dessert.

Along with mochi ice cream. It was really good, authentic Hawaiian food, with good portions for the price.

Just about.

All open.

Progression of the new plumeria flowers in one pic.

Mr. James from News Radio on Seinfeld.

The cat oven mitt stands out.

Elaine makes friends with dopplegangers of Jerry, George, and Cosmo in this episode.

Their Jerry's place is like normal Jerry's place, even with the cat oven mitt.

A little moth flew into our room. Sorry, guy, gotta throw you out.

Colorful sunrise.

With a reflection in the canal.

Lunch.

One of the more memorable Seinfeld episodes.

Where George leaves a sexy picture for the photo development woman, but they guy actually develops them and leaves one in return.

Watching the HS football game on Friday night.

There's also a pro game on.

Both games have a team in yellow.

Some event going at at the International Marketplace.

Genki ball making.

What is that?

Ah, they sink microorganisms to the bottom of the canal to break down sludge.

Throw Back Alley is every other Friday night at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani.

A different restaurant serves food.

Tonight is chicken.

Also right there is RoseMary’s Hair Shoppe, so I got a haircut.

As did this guy. He had very long hair and wanted it almost all cut off, so he went from looking like a surfer to a professional.

We got some Mexican at the food court of the International Marketplace. It was OK, but not as good as in California.

This bar was showing the football game.

Some people were watching it very intently.

Cheering after the game ended.

The Laylow, Autograph Collection hotel.

It has a lounge called Hideout, although there's a big sign for it on the street, so it's not that hidden.

Their sign is neat.

Funky chairs.

Live music.

This homeless guy has a bunch of beach umbrellas.

We can't walk by Nordstrom Rack and not go in, especially when there is a sale.

50% off Reyn Spooner shirts.

That's a pretty good deal.

Unfortunately, many of that brand now are not local designs; this one is Guardians of the Galaxy.

Cool luggage.

Made by Tumi.

I was thinking $100, not $900.

Checking out some of the big sales items.

Very stringy flowers.

A few games of chess.

Friday night fireworks with a crescent moon.
