2024 Sep 13 | Kilauea Ave houses and gates, preparing for and flying to Baltic cruise on NCL Dawn

Kilauea Ave south of the Kahala Mall has many houses with neat gates. This one has cacti.

Flowers.

Birds of paradise.

Plants.

They also have a massive inflatable skeleton in their yard.

This one with the matching front door is still my favorite. It's 6 beds, 7.5 baths, 7866 sq. ft.

Another huge one with a plant gate.

Very modern.

Another plant gate.

Huge house, huge tree...

... and nice gate.

Another huge house.

Another one.

Watching the presidential candidate debate.

Ogii's calculator stopped working. Maybe it just needs a new battery?

They have the one I need at CVS.

Time to see if it works.

Yep.

Calculating how much money we need in Europe. We need some to tip the Berlin bus driver and tour guide, some for multiple toilets each day, and maybe some extra for lunch. The local currency exchanges have euros and British pounds, but not Swedish krona and Swiss francs, so if we need those, we'll have to get them once we arrive.

There's a currency exchange at the International Marketplace.

I got pounds and euros. They even had a few coins of each.

Target is getting ready to open there.

Google Maps says there's a Longs Drugs currently open here, but I can't find it; only medical offices.

A review from five months ago says it's closed. Google needs to udpate their info.

No problem; there's another one just a few blocks away. I bought COVID tests and masks for our trip, just in case we need them.

I also downloaded a few toilet finder apps.

The lie flat seats are $4,000; we'll just lean against the side of the plane instead.

We've never gone on the eastern side of the airport before; we've always been in the middle. There's a flower shop with fresh leis here.

And a Burger King.

With plenty of open seating (unlike the food court in the middle part of the airport, which is usually packed).

A little bird looking for food.

Pretty pictures on the walk to the gates.

And flowers in the floor.

The flight is fairly empty.

Only a couple of people per row.

Leaving Honolulu.

Dinner and a movie.

Everyone had two or three sets of seats to lie down on and sleep.

Crossing South Dakota.

The first half of the trip is over water; the second is over land.

Ogii likes playing her word game.

Many skyscrapers in New York City.

We can just make out the Statue of Liberty.

First class has these huge dividers between the seats, so they couldn't like down sideways across them like we could in coach.

A bathroom for your pets.

The restaurants in the airport don't get very good reviews.

Eating and working.

The next flight to Europe was nearly full.

There were also many people coughing, so we worse masks.

$25 for internet on the plane.

Although it's not available everywhere.

It looks like it mostly is available here, but not from Hawaii to the mainland US.

Halfway there.
