2024 Sep 24 | Baltic cruise on NCL Dawn, day 10 - Amsterdam, Netherlands

Day 10 is Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Inside.

Amsterdam map of the port.

Tourist map.

Sunrise.

We got our laundry back, much sooner than last time, the next morning instead of the next afternoon.

And everything was correct.

The port.

Some fun photo items at the port.

Including flower field pictures.

Gotta get through the vendors first.

A lot of people want information.

Our first destination was the Anne Frank House. Since it was nearly two miles away, we took an Uber.

The Eye Filmmuseum, an art museum, is a cool building.

By a canal and the Westerkerk, a Protestant church.

There's some construction, so we have to go around.

Nice mural.

The smallest cheese store. What if someone builds a smaller one? Do they have to change their name?

Ann Frank statue.

The house is a museum, but all of the morning tickets were sold out. I didn't think about that. I guess we'll just look at the outside.

The we walked along the canals to the next sights. Even the smaller European cars are too large for the old parking spaces, so they fit four cars per five spaces.

The streets are very narrow, too. When this van stopped to drop off people, there was no room for the cars behind it to go around; they just had to wait.

Which is probably part of the reason so many people bike instead of drive.

One major problem with a bike (or a motorcycle) is the rain. Some had a cover over them.

These tiny three-wheeled vehicles are neat. Better rain coverage and less work than a bike, although harder to fit around other vehicles and to find parking.

Ooh, an unlocked porta potty. We'll take advantage of that.

Rubber duck store.

Funky purses.

Art.

Interesting art.

Iris photography.

They seem pretty cheap.

A bakery.

More art.

Chocolate.

Antique watches.

Looking down a canal.

Another iris photography store.

I'm starting to see a few more of these around the world, but I think the first major company may have been here in Amsterdam.

Chocolate art.

The Rijksmuseum.

Carvings on the side.

And paintings.

A clock above.

The entrance.

Which actually isn't yet the entrance to the museum, just the pedestrian and bike paths through the center of the museum.

Garden on the other side.

Statue.

From the southwest.

A path with many vendors.

Ogii found her magnets.

I found food I love.

Moco Museum, with modern art.

An egg.

A giant gummy bear.

A balloon between two blocks.

Cell-phone faces.

Rocking horse.

The Van Gogh Museum.

All four of us.

The huge screen cycled through his most famous works.

Looking back at the Rijksmuseum.

The concert hall on the other side of the park.

Reflective square.

Someone practicing boxing.

We all have our coins.

For the toilets.

If you buy something, they refund your toilet payment.

Canal cruise by boat.

Another.

Some huge trees in the Weteringsplantsoen park.

Place of Execution statue, a reminder of the execution of several political prisoners by German forces during World War 2.

A very tiny car.

Tram and bicycle.

Interesting outfits.

Many bikes.

You drive your car into this glass box.

Then an elevator takes it down to the parking garage below.

A canal cleaning boat to pick up floating garbage.

Cannabis snacks.

Hearts.

Another rubber duck store.

There were many flower markets along Singel street south of the canal.

Tulip bulbs.

More.

Kissing cutout.

Also a magic mushroom store.

With a very attention-grabbing sign out front.

Many old window shutters.

Some huge shoes.

A bakery.

Looking down a canal.

Many more shops.

Glasses sign that lights up.

Dam Square.

Carving.

National Monument for remembrance of WWII.

For people, it's a place to think. For birds, it's just another place to sit.

We had lunch at Brasserie De Roode Leeuw.

It's very light and open inside.

The menu.

Cheese platter.

Latkes.

Roasted potatoes.

Dutch steak.

Creme brule.

Dad and me.

Apple pie.

Very touristy stores around here.

Mike Tyson weed seeds.

Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum.

Don't buy drugs from street dealers as you don't know what you're getting.

Oudezijds Achterburgwal, one of the major streets / canals of the red light district.

Flowery bike.

Sex shop.

Sex show.

Peep show.

Pee curl (outdoor urinal).

Because you're not supposed to pee elsewhere.

None of the sex show places were open in the early afternoon.

Nor were there any prostitutes in the windows.

I guess they don't get much business at this time of day.

Museum of Prostitution.

Erotic Museum.

Another sex show and prostitutes.

Then back to the cruise ship terminal.

Thye're loading lots of food.

More people from other countries left notes on our door.

Dinner was at Cagney's Steakhouse.

You're supposed to dress up at least a little bit.

The menu.

We had wine.

From California.

Rib eye.

Filet Mignon.

Mushrooms.

Truffle fries and baked potato.

Caramel-butterscotch cheesecake and seven layer chocolate cake.

We had to rush through dinner a bit to get to the mandatory UK border officers inspection that evening.

Wind turbines at sunset.
