2024 Sep 27 | Baltic cruise on NCL Dawn, day 13 - Paris, France

Arrival at La Havre.

Information, boutique, souvenirs, and wifi.

Starting to leave.

It'd be about a 35-minute walk to the bus terminal.

An Uber would only be around $25.

Off the ship and waiting for a taxi, which we shared with another couple.

First stop at the bus station: bathrooms.

Very nice foyer.

Someone playing a piano there.

We managed to snag a table so Ogii could work a bit.

A map of the area.

Another one.

Where all of the buses depart from.

A map of where each bus line stops.

I see Flixbus. It has a blue bus symbol to the left of it, which is quai B1. Is that it?

Yep. Now we know where to go.

This couple behind us was also on the cruise.

The bus is here.

Loading the luggage.

We could fit our backpacks in front of us.

Bluetooth charging, although it's the older USB-A. Gotta still keep some cables with that.

We had the very front seats.

Dad and Mom were right behind us.

The driver had a bit of trouble closing the luggage door because of how many suitcases were in it. Hopefully it doesn't open up while we're driving down the highway.

Passing a church.

And another one.

It looks like we're headed in the right direction.

Twisting spires on each side of this bridge.

A suspension bridge.

Driving over it.

River below.

Some horses.

We had to pass through a few toll booths.

Each city had a neat sign. There is a Notre Dame church in Mantes-la-Jolie.

Les Mureaux has an ArianeGroup rocket factory.

A train. Faster but more expensive than the bus.

Some barges on another river.

Arriving in Paris to some skyscrapers.

Vive Le Vent sculpture.

We arrived at La Defense bus station.

The driver said she couldn't open the luggage door on the other side of the bus, but half of everyone's luggage was over there, so I climbed in and handed suitcases back to Dad.

The bars for the doors were in the way of these; I had to lift the luggage up and over the bars.

Finally got to ours, way in the back.

Walkers go through the circular structure on the left; bikers in the middle.

More skyscrapers.

After a bit of a walk, we found La Cantine du 38 for lunch.

We had to leave our luggage up at the front where we couldn't really see it. I hope nobody steals it.

They don't have any English menus.

Google Translate to the rescue.

Beef.

Poultry.

Fish.

Ready to eat.

And some desserts, of course.

They had a funky bathroom.

Mural and sculpture.

The plants are fighting their way into the concrete.

We can see the Eiffel Tower in the distance.

Bassin Takis fountain.

Ubers can't pick you up anywhere, only in certain locations, so we had to walk to the Melia.

Interesting sculptures.

The driver took us straight down Charles de Gaulle Ave, which meant we saw a lot of the landmarks on the way. Here was the Arc de Triomphe.

All of the other tourists were taking pictures, too.

Sculpture on the side.

And inside.

Starting to go around.

On the other side.

Behind us.

Lots of shopping.

Funky bug.

Grand Palais.

Statue of Immortality outstripping Time.

Louvre Museum.

Supreme Court.

Statue of Etienne Marcel in front of City Hall.

Notre-Dame Cathedral.

Ogii and Mom taking pictures, too.

All of the kids are wearing safety vests.

At our hotel, Citadines.

I only know "a petit dejeuner" from Celebrity Jeopardy on SNL.

The room key card is wood.

Our room.

It has a balcony.

With a little table outside.

Kitchen.

Heater.

It's a bit chilly and the heater is slow; I hope this is how you turn it on.

We saw everything we wanted to see on the Uber ride here, but we went out and walked to them to get better pictures.

Garden mural.

Crossing the Seine.

Raccoon face.

Le Monde headquarters.

Jardin Des Plantes.

Funny little mosaic.

Memorial sign.

Cool sign. I wonder what the pictures represent.

Unlocked porta-potty.

Rooftop patio with trees and bushes.

Video game character and a bird with sunglasses.

Pont de la Tournelle bridge with a statue of Sainte Genevieve.

There are many vendors along the sidewalk.

They simply close and lock them when they're not open.

Notre Dame and a boat tour.

Us.

Many windows and spires.

Two towers.

Funky outfit.

Cafe Paris.

People hanging out down by the river.

Magnets.

St. Michael fountain.

The top.

St. Michael's Bridge.

City courthouse, Parquet du Tribunal de Grande Instance.

It has four sculptures in alcoves on the wall.

Second.

Third.

And fourth.

The hour flies, but the law remains.

Pont Neuf bridge.

Locks.

Equestrian Statue of Henri IV.

Engraving below.

Flower sculpture on the Cheval Blanc Paris hotel.

Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois Catholic church.

The Louve courtyard.

Us.

Ogii and me with the pyramid.

What are they doing?

Ah, making it look like she's holding the pyramid.

Mom's turn.

Don't drop it.

It's a huge building.

Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel.

Peace riding a chariot.

It's almost an hour walk to the Eiffel Tower, so I tried to get another Uber, but the app wasn't connecting for some reason. Thankfully there were a few taxis there.

Grand Palais again. The last time we saw it from the north from Champs-Elysees; this time we are south across the river on Quai d'Orsay.

The quadriga sculpture on this side is Harmony triumphing over Discord.

The Pont Alexandre III bridge has many sculptures high and low.

La France de la Renaissance by Jules Coutan.

On the other side, La France de Louis XIV by Laurent Marqueste.

Boy with a lion.

Us with the Eiffel Tower.

Underneath. It's raining some.

Kissing.

We bought tickets to go up. The top third level was closed, but we could go to the second level.

Similar hats.

In the elevator.

Outside.

Northwest.

North.

A church in the distance.

And a gold-topped one.

Pont Alexandre III bridge with all of the sculptures.

Southeast.

Southwest.

Many bridges.

Us with the Palais de Chaillot.

Rain in the distance.

Skyscrapers.

The gift shop.

Eiffel Tower toothbrushes.

Headed back down in the elevator.

A view from below.

From the side.

With the four of us.

Ogii and me.

I tried to get an Uber back to the hotel, but the drivers canceled on me and said it was too far.

So we had to take a taxi, which was 65 euros versus the 20 euros for the Uber. Actually, the taxi might have been cheaper if we had been charged by mileage, but he quoted us a price.

Neat linear lights on this building.

We had dinner at this kebab shop by the hotel.

Lots of meat.

Eating in the hotel.

We did a lot of walking on the trip, most days around five miles.
