2024 Sep 28 | train to Zurich, Switzerland and Old Town there with Ogii's friend Dulmaa

Up early to get to the train station.

Our train is the 7:22 to Basel is on time.

Not much is open before 6:30am, but this little cafe / convenience store is.

Some different Kit Kats.

A croissant for Ogii.

Time to board.

Our train.

We had reserved seats on this train.

Right by the door so we can keep any eye on our luggage.

And by the bathroom. When the light is on, it's occupied.

Many fields.

Sunrise.

Small towns.

The bathroom.

Food and drinks.

They have a good variety.

Drinks and snacks for us.

Many sheep.

Another small town.

And another.

Cows.

Castle.

Only a couple more stops.

A forest.

Church and trains.

Funky building.

Everyone is lining up at the stairs to get out.

We only have 11 minutes once to arrive before the next train leaves, so we are ready to go, too. Thankfully they announced which track our next train is on.

And we're off.

Our next train was close. Only up the escalator, over a few stops, and back down.

Made it.

The seats weren't reserved on this train, but we found some easily.

Another train.

Old church.

Small town.

Many bicycles.

Pretty view.

About halfway there.

The screen shows the next three stops and the last three stops, but any between them (between Dietion and Zurich HB) aren't displayed, so you don't know how many more stops there are, although they all have times, so you know when you'll arrive, unless you're one of those middle hidden stops.

Many buildings up the side of the hill.

River.

Gardens.

A single highrise.

A dam.

The screen displays the next trains people might be transferring to.

Rainbow stripes on a building.

Ogii's friend Dulmaa was at the train station in Zurich to meet us.

Stopping to pick up the rental car.

All of our luggage fits in the trunk.

Bahnhofstrasse, a major street with many shops.

Looking the other way.

It started raining a bit.

But we had our rain jackets while we walked down Augustinergasse, one of Zurich's most beautiful historical narrow streets.

And Dulmaa had an umbrella.

Munzplatz square.

Some expensive stores.

And more. I think this building used to be Credit Suisse, but it collapsed in 2023.

And was taken over by UBS.

You have to watch out for the trams.

Swiss flag and metal sculpture.

Beer hall restaurant.

Munsterhof square and Fraumunster Church.

Many buildings squeezed together.

We were planning on eating at Heugumper, and upscale restaurant, but it was closed.

We'll walk towards the river and see if we can find somewhere else to eat.

Wasserkirche (Water Church) across the river.

Us with it.

Ogii and Dulmaa.

Many restaurants and stores along the bank.

Eye exams.

We decided to stop and eat at this one, Cafe Wuhre.

Funky interior.

I'm going to have to order some dessert.

Soup.

Another one.

Pizza.

Cake.

Ready to eat.

David Brunnen fountain.

The top.

Very detailed sign.

More shops.

Vilebrequin.

With the river behind us.

And the church.

Hotel Storchen.

With a fake stork nest way up top.

The road is blocked off for a cycling event.

But they let people through as nobody was coming yet.

Cute elephant.

Window shopping.

Another detailed sign.

Holzbueb book store.

They also have magnets.

And clocks.

Headed down a steep, narrow street.

You look good!

Like a 7-Eleven.

Another neat sign.

Zunfthaus zur Zimmerleuten, a restaurant, is under this arch.

Fondue.

Looking up at Grossmunster church.

Many people are here at Terrasse Grossmunster to watch the bike race.

This bench has "Zunftverfassung 1336" on it. The smiths guild was formed in 1336.

We had to run across to get to the other side of the street.

The bikers aren't even close.

You can watch them on the big screen.

Looking down the river.

Where the race started.

I hope they have more porta potties than just these.

Artwork.

An optical store.

Sprungli pastry stop.

Many macarons.

Walls of chocolate.

I prefer dark chocolate.

cakes.

And bread.
