2024 Oct 13 | sunrise from Fort DeRussy rock jetty, Queer Art Nite at Proof Social Club
We walked to the Fort DeRussy rock jetty to get a picture of Diamond Head at sunrise.
Us.
Diamond Head.
A cruise ship coming in.
It's getting much more colorful now.
Us again.
These women jumped off the end of the jetty.
There they go.
Then they swam around for a bit. This is looking southeast towards Diamond Head.
Looking southwest out to the ocean.
And looking northwest towards downtown Honolulu.
Some of the skyscrapers there.
A lot of other people showed up.
Some paddle boarders and surfers headed out.
The cruise ship is getting closer. You can tell it's the Pride of America now.
Ogii at the end of the pier.
With Diamond Head.
And with all of the other people on the pier.
There were a ton of small fish in the water.
Along with many crabs on the rocks.
A variety of small fish.
A little crab.
Eating.
This woman brought her own chair to sit on the rock jetty.
More surfers headed out.
The US Army Museum of Hawaii is nearby.
Many weapons. The first is a monarchy cannon, one of twelve placed on Punchbowl Crater in 1831.
A Japanese Type I antitank gun from 1941.
A US 105mm Howitzer M3 from 1941.
A US M24 light tank from late WWII.
A Japanese light tank.
A US prefabricated pillbox.
A helicopter on the roof.
Ogii picking up some trash.
A couple of limos at the Embassy Suites.
A variety of restaurants from different cultures.
Shave Ice.
The JNoel Cafe was open for breakfast at 7am.
We were the first customers.
The food was quite good.
Dessert options.
Ogii with the Storyteller Statue.
Dean & Deluca is another breakfast option.
Many sandwiches.
And desserts.
Another Seinfeld actor on Night Court: Barney Martin, who plays Seinfeld's father.
All soft food because of my removed tooth.
We watched Career Opportunities, a 1991 movie produced by John Hughes.
It has John Candy in a cameo.
And Jennifer Connolly. You'd think with all of that, it'd be a great movie, but it was extremely boring, and John Hughes even tried to take his name off of it.
Sailboats out on the ocean.
A Kansas plate. Haven't see that one yet.
The Manoa Farmers Market has a lot of local fruit and only a few vendors, so we like that one if we only need fruit.
Some fruit and bread.
When you get a condo in Honolulu, you always want to see what the parking spot looks like. These poor people in our building are so squeezed together they can barely open their doors.
Our parking spot has plenty of space on both sides, but it's inside of a covered garage which is open to the sides. Which means a lot of dust blows in, but there's no rain to wash it off. And if it does rain, it usually only lasts a few minutes, which is great if you're out walking around, but I don't have enough time to get down and drive out to wash off the car in the rain. It's almost over and barely sprinking; not nearly enough to wash off the dust.
So we went to the hardware store to buy a hose to wash the RAV4. Ogii had seen these rainbow-colored utenils before and thought they might be rainbow eucalyptus.
But it's Pakka.
Which is different layers of other wood.
All of my cargo shorts are too thick and heavy; the ones in Hawaii are much lighter. We went to the thrift store to buy a few.
The shorts are much cheaper than at other stores and still in great shape.
Ogii of course has to look at shoes, too.
And all of the kitchen plates and bowls and such.
They did have some nice beer steins, but we don't need them.
Pretty spare tire cover.
Sunday night, we went to Chinatown. Fort Street Mall is a walking corridor with many shops lining it.
It's 6pm on Sunday, though, so they're all closed.
There are some nice murals.
Another one.
Ogii found The Dotted Line, a restaurant in the AC Marriott Hotel.
The menu.
We had the chicken sandwich, sliders, truffle fries, and chocolate cake. It was all quite good.
The we walked over to Proof Social Club for Queer Art Nite.
Inside.
This guy was visiting from California and sat next to us while we were eating at The Dotted Line. While we were chatting, we mentioned we were going here, he asked if he could come along, and we said sure. We paid for his cover; he paid for our drinks.
The art was set along this wall.

They had pasta there. Too bad we already ate. They said they often have the pasta when they have events, though, so maybe some other time.
