2024 Oct 27 | UFC 308 (Hawaiian fighters Max Holloway and Dan Ige), Haunted Plantation

The sky is purple.

Yellow.

Then pink.

A timelapse of the sunrise showing the color changes.

Colorful clouds on the other side, too.

Ogii is good at cutting up pineapples now.

Uh oh, a bit of pineapple juice fell on the floor. I smelled it to see if it was the new spot, and Ogii asked if I tasted it. No, I did not lick the floor.

Good have to rug stain remover handy.

The USPS self service is so slow. It kept saying it couldn't read the dimensions.

My dentist is one of the best in Honolulu.

They gave me a much softer, post-operation toothbrush.

Someone got a picture of the comet above McWay Falls in California. But that's to the southwest; I thought the comet was to the southeast?

Looks like the comet moved over the past few weeks where it wasn't visible.

Neat clouds.

Cosmo from Seinfeld is in Night Court.

He thinks he's invisible.

Especially without clothes.

Sailboats at sunset.

The new Target store at the International Marketplace is open.

Nice signs.

Nice mural.

I wonder if we can go into that middle room at the top; it must have great views.

We're checking out the condo on Ala Moana Blvd with the huge balcony on Friday night to see how loud it is. This metal plate in the road makes a lot of noise when cars drive over it, but the city should fix it soon.

The little bar next door.

It has a cowboy theme.

There are a fair number of people here.

Some info on the cowboys of Hawaii.

They're mostly on the north side of Big Island now.

Our beers.

Cheers! They were OK, but not great, at least for our tastes.

We also came over to see if we could see the fireworks. We're a little low, so they're mostly behind the building in front.

Although maybe if we went up to a higher floor, we'd have a better view.

Our mail-in ballots were accepted.

Our sunglasses order said it was delivered by FedEx, but that's not the correct porch or box.

And their other tracking number for USPS isn't it, either. I guess we'll have to request a refund and try to find the sunglasses somewhere else.

This site, Poshmark, is kind of like Ebay, and has a pair. Cheaper, too.

A tiny frog.

I called around to different bars to see if they were showing the UFC fight. Many were, although Skybox at the International Marketplace was the closest to us without a cover and serving breakfast, so we went there. The fights were in Abu Dhabi, so the prelims started at 4am and the main event started at 8am, much earlier than most bars are open. Since UFC 308 had two Hawaiian fighters, though, Max Holloway and Dan Ige, many were open early.

Main seating area.

A small side section.

An outdoor spot. We chose to sit here as the TV was the easiest to see.

Fun fountain of beer taps.

US flag of baseball bats.

The breakfast was great.

One of the prelim fights.

His eye is really swollen, but he can still see. Or he guessed correctly.

His face is really bloody.

Now he's making the other guy's face really bloody.

Winner.

Rafael dos Anjos has been around forever, but he's getting old now, and he hurt his knee.

Ogii with a cider.

These guys were swinging away.

He knocked him out with a double backfist.

You don't see that every day.

I wonder how much of this excitement by the announcers is real versus faked for the camera.

More people showed up inside.

And the couches outside are full, too. We showed up early enough we got the very front seat.

There are even people standing outside.

Time for the first Hawaiian fighter: Dan Ige.

He got some good hits in.

But he's also rather old.

And lost.

Another guy who's been around forever: Robert Whittaker.

He taps the tattoo of the Southern Cross on his chest before each fight to remind him of his father, as his father was with him when he got the tattoo.

He lost, too, though.

Time for Max Holloway, with the Hawaiian flag behind him.

Only four UFC fighters are from Hawaii, and two of them were in this event.

Max has had some really good fights.

He also has his own shorts with Hawaiian flowers.

He's also older and not expected to win.

They fought for a bit, but then a big punch to the face...

... and another to the jaw knocked Max out.

You can't stream the UFC fights legally, but this guy was faking like he was playing a UFC video game while actually showing the fight. That's pretty sneaky.

This duckling was running between the two little ponds while his mom chased after him.

A video.

Statue of happy dolphins with leis.

Target is really advertised at the International Marketplace. They're on the other side of the mall but have a sign here.

Stopping at the foreign currency exchange to get $100 of each country we will be visiting on our Asia cruise. They only had Japanese yen and Hong Kong dollars, but we could order the others, and they'd arrive in a few days.

Checking out the new Target.

They have a grocery store, too. Prices are fairly similar to everywhere else on the island.

Rain in the valley.

We went to the Haunted Plantation.

A long line here first.

And then another line here.

I wasn't scared at all, I was mostly complimenting the monsters on their costumes and thanking them for the entertainment, but Ogii screamed a lot.

As did a lot of other women.

A full 360-degree rainbow.

Trying some new fruit.

I guess you eat the seeds. The pits inside are optional.

With deer sausage.

You da bomb. That's nice. And the skeleton is fun.

Checking out one more dual-entry condo.

The realtor was about to close it down; we just made it.

Lobby.

A little entryway before the two separate doors. That's nice; you can clean off your shoes here.

The guest studio is in great shape.

Studio closet and bathroom.

Shower.

Bathroom sink.

The studio has its own kitchen sink.

And its own balcony.

Not a great view, but you can see a bit of the canal.

The one-bedroom.

Living room.

With a large balcony.

A small storage area.

Kitchen.

Bathroom.

Bedroom.

The main living room and bedroom have their own window A/Cs. The studio does not, but you could put one in.

There is also a good-sized studio for the main bedroom.

Again, a bit of a view of the canal.

You can just see the rotating restaurant, too.

There is one shared washer and dryer every other floor.

Small pool.

The parking space is pretty good. Out of all the places we looked at, I think this was our favorite. It was the cleanest and had a kitchen sink for the studio. It's still really expensive, though, especially with insurance rates for condos increasing even faster than insurance rates for houses, which are really exploding due to all of the natural disasters.

A bunch of nuts on the ground.

They're really big and multicolored.

They fell from this.

I'm not sure what they are.

On Sunday night we went to the Trial of Fears haunted house / escape rooms.

The line was really long; it looped back and forth rather confusingly.

It's hard to keep track of where the line actually is.

Eventually they straightened us out along the sidewalk. We showed up at 7pm, right when they opened. It's almost 8pm now, and the line has barely moved. I don't know how much longer we'd have to wait, but we decided to just go home instead.
