2024 Nov 03 | Wa'ahila Ridge, Diamond Head Lighthouse, Halloween on Kalakaua Ave, HOA CE

The rider is a skeleton.

Pretty color.

The bank has the Lions box to donate your glasses. But glasses lenses are so customized; I wonder how they figure out who to give the glasses to? Do they just get close with both lenses? Do they recut the lenses and put them in different frames as needed?

The dream truck in Hawaii is of course a Toyota Tacoma.

Ogii pushing very hard at Planet Fitness.

A lot of spiderwebs up for Halloween.

All kinds of things.

Many big ones.

I don't think this truck has moved in a while. It's in the grass by a sidewalk by a road; I'm surprised the city has let it sit there this long.

Playing cards with Ogii. She wins most rounds, but I have both jokers and a lot of trumps, so she doesn't have a chance this time.

A big rainbow.

Which got even longer.

No trick-or-treaters in our building. There are many other locations they can go nearby.

Colorful hanging lights under a skylight at the International Marketplace.

Our other Asian currency arrived, so I went and picked it up.

I didn't know Mitsuwa was in Illinois and Texas.

While there, I videocalled Ogii and showed her the different sushi to pick from.

Ogii's lunch.

All ready for our trip.

Back at Planet Fitness.

They're just starting to put up decorations.

A couple hiding under their tree.

Hanging from their roof.

Along the hedge.

Cute cat.

Skeletons in a tree.

A nice park with kids playing soccer.

And some women playing sand volleyball.

Three palm trees that go in completely different directions.

A few decorations in this tree.

Some black cat cutouts along this road.

Pretty gate.

Another one.

A big house.

Another one.

Storks on this gate.

Polynesian symbols.

A very modern house.

Double rainbow.

We drove up to Wa'ahila Ridge. This big house had a great view...

... of Diamond Head.

A skeleton on a chair on top of their garage.

Why do their mailboxes sit at an angle?

The entrance to Wa'ahila Ridge Park. There's a gate, so you better leave by closing time.

The road is pretty skinny.

But it's a very short drive to the parking lot.

A bench under very tall trees.

This feels more like the Midwest than Hawaii.

If you take the path down a bit and then turn right here...

... you can go out to this viewpoint.

Where you can see the ocean to the mountains.

Downtown Honolulu.

Sunset.

We thought me might be able to see the comet, but it's over here, behind the clouds and maybe even the trees.

This huge house at the entrance has a great view.

Driving down the road would go straight into the skyscrapers.

A bunch of blowups.

Lou Ferrigno, who played The Hulk, is on Night Court.

Bull picks him up and moves him easily.

So the promoter asks Bull to wrestle.

Everyone, the court workers and the other wrestlers, watching Bull.

A very shiny car.

Ogii's witch gets to watch the rainbows, too.

Here's a full one.

A bit doubled on the side.

We drove down Kalakaua Ave in Waikiki.

There were a ton of people dressed up on the sidewalks on Halloween.

Even with the outfits, they're still wearing sandals.

Some police to keep the peace.

Jack-o-Lanterns on poles at their gate.

This gate now has a spider with its web on it.

The Diamond Head Lighthouse at sunset.

There's a little lawn where people can hang out.

There are also a few people who live in tents here.

This path leads down to the beach.

These plants smell the same as they do in the Midwest.

The beach.

To the north.

And the south.

Someone's blanket and sandals.

The lighthouse at night. You can't really see it very well in the picture, but the Milky Way is spread vertically on the left side of the picture.

More people in costumes in Waikiki.

Along Kalakaua Ave.

Even some people in the other cars were dressed up.

Princesses.

A chicken.

A dragon.

A shark and a cat and an... alien, maybe?

The guy in front took off his monkey mask. It's still hot at night.

Skeleton mask on a bike.

This balloon dog was my favorite.

A neat idea: a jack-o-lantern out of a pineapple.

Ogii fried some plantain bananas.

Time for Ogii's witch to come down. She gets to look at one last rainbow.

They upgraded the internet in our building. It's pretty fast in our unit.

They also added wifi to the common area by the pool.

Which has about the same speed as our apartment.

It's also in the lobby.

Again, about the same.

Funnily enough, if we take our phones off wifi and use T-Mobile, it's even faster, especially the upload, which is about double. Although I don't think we could use this all the time; it's probably limited in some way.

We got the sunglasses. They put in this little stuffed animal.

And a free toothpaste squeezer.

The sunglasses.

They're broke above the lens, though. They weren't in the picture, so I wonder if they got damaged in shipping, or if they broke before the seller shipped them. That would explain the other items in the box to try to make up for it. I think we can glue it, though.

There were the usual Friday night fireworks, and then, a few minutes later, another set above the Royal Hawaiian.

Them sped up.

The second season of Night Court.

Hey, who is this?

It's a different old bailiff.

The actress from the first season died. We really liked her.

There's a jackalope head in Harry's office in Night Court.

Sunrise behind the clouds.

On Sunday, the Hawaii Optometric Association had an in-person CE meeting for eight hours of credit at the Oahu Country Club.

Their driveway.

A room inside the building.

Beautiful view.

The exhibitors.

Each of the four speakers had two hours.

The exhibitors setting up.

Breakfast.

Time for speakers.

The first spoke on floaters and interesting retinal cases.

The second discussed same-day bilateral cataract surgery and swollen optic nerves.

A break to speak with the exhibitors.

Glasses and eye cookies.

Everyone wants free artificial tears.

This is a new bottle design that is supposed to allow you to keep preservative-free artificial tears for longer. You have to squeeze it very hard the first time you use it.

Some people loaded up on the freebies.

I only got a few for Ogii.

Demonstrating the portable ERG.

A few others.

One problem with being in Hawaii is the expense of having to fly people or equipment over from the mainland. This company does routine maintenance, and normally they'd charge hundreds of dollars to fly here, but the representative was trying to set up a system where he'd come over quarterly and visit multiple offices at once so they could waive the travel costs.

Lunch time.

Many desserts.

The third lecture was on strabismus and amblyopia treatment.

The last speaker discussed glaucoma.

There was also dinner afterwards.

Lots of good food.

Even a carving station. It was a great meeting. The lectures were great, and I talked with many local optometrists and vendors.

A rainbow starting.

Moving along.

All the way down.

A second one growing above it.
