2024 Nov 14 | Hong Kong - Big Bus tour of Kowloon
Ogii woke up early and wanted to let me sleep without bothering me, so she hauled a chair into the bathroom to work there.
Hong Kong issued the number 8 typhoon signal, which means many outdoor events will be closed.
Including our hop-on, hop-off bus tour, although it might restart later in the day if the weather improves.
Which is looks like it should, as cyclone Toraji appears to be weakening.
With less rain and wind as the day goes by.
The hotel has laundry.
And some ironing boards.
Ogii likes the warm clothes fresh out of the dryer.
Big buffet at the hotel.
Two of our three bus tours will resume this afternoon.
I was hoping to do all three today, but I guess we'll miss the green one, a big loop around the island.
You can use an Octopus card on all of the public transit. I tried to put a digital one on my phone, but it wouldn't let me change the phone number from the 852 Hong Kong area code, so we ended up buying physical cards at the subway station.
The directions are clearly marked.
And there are maps that grey out the stops behind the current one.
The subway was fairly crowded.
Artistic hand hold.
Cool skyscraper.
It's pretty cheap; 9 Hong Kong dollars is just over 1 US dollar.
We got off at the K11 Musea, a large shopping mall, because that's where we'll get on the bus in a few hours.
A directory.
Many shops inside.
This looks delicious.
The Vilebrequin store has a turtle outline sculpture in front. And the stage coach looks like Wells Fargo, but it's Wellgon, which sells vintage-inspired products.
I love the vibe of this store.
The bus tour has a picture of where you meet.
This is it. There are even some of the bus company employees there early.
Some sculptures outside.
A giant sculpture of a boy that's a slide.
Many food options in the mall.
We picked this one.
Back to the bus meeting point.
It's rainy and very windy out.
We sat on top for a better view. Even though it was raining, it was still warm, and we had rain jackets on.
Everybody has an app nowadays.
Expensive stores.
Armani.
Hermes.
Piaget and Dolce & Gabbana.
Most people sat inside, but there were a few others on top with us.
A market.
Kowloon Mosque.
Sculpture arms.
And colorful stairs.
Hanging food.
Many other buses, both tour and municipal.
A skyscraper.
Old and new.
It's not raining right now, so we can put our hoods down.
Cool-looking hotel.
Tin Hau temple.
More old buildings.
This one looks in especially bad shape.
Markets.
Signs for all of the stores.
Jewelry stores here.
World Taekwondo championships.
It's starting to rain again. Umbrellas for all of the pedestrians.
And hoods up for us.
Funky sculpture.
Another neat skyscraper.
Many people hung their clothes outside of their windows to dry.
Although if you didn't have a cover like this, they'd just all get wet again in the rain.
I like the name of this claw game store.
Another temple.
Purple-topped buildings.
Two towers connected at the top.
Multiple skyscrapers.
You can't even see the top of the Mega ICC, the tallest building in Hong Kong, due to the clouds.
It has an observation deck on the 100th floor, although you wouldn't see much now.
Food trucks.
The Xiqu Centre performing arts center has a very unique design.
All-gold building behind us.
Some Pac-Man ghosts on the side of the building.
And some more.
Harbour City, the largest shopping mall in the city.
Beautiful courtyard.
Trees on multiple rooftops.
Huge hotel, the Peninsula.
Christmas-themed light art.
Pink and blue buildings.
A view of the skyline.
With us.
