2024 Dec 08 | Holiday Art Fair, Habilitat Christmas tree, Gothmass

This Himilayan store in the Ala Moana also has elephant pants.

They were $5 in Asia; a bit more here.

Target has $40 pillows. I wonder if there are any cheaper ones?

That's what I'm lookinng for.

I was waiting until Cyber Monday to buy a new laptop. This one from Best Buy seems pretty good.

I went to a local store, and they had it in stock.

I don't think I need this massive monitor. It looks like it's really three screens in one.

Getting massages.

My previous Ozark Trail River Sport sandals from Walmart had stayed good for years. I had finally bought some new ones a few months ago, but they are already getting worn by the heel. Although I am wearing them a lot more; they're my regular shoe now.

Pretty sunset.

I got a jury summons for Monterey. I don't think I'm going to make that. You can simply write in that you moved, though.

Ogii doesn't like eating brownie batter because of the eggs, but that's my favorite part of making brownies.

A helicopter lowering pieces to workmen on the top of this building.

Sun reflections.

There are a bunch of bugs in the plumeria dirt. Definitely have to throw that out.

It's First Friday in Chinatown. Our first stop was the Holiday Art Fair at The ARTS at Marks Garage.

Some of the art.

Food.

Live music.

Then we stopped by the Downtown Art Center to see what's new there. This burned piece is neat; From the Chasm of Memories You Left Behind by Daniel Shienfeld Rodriguez.

This woman danced around, danced with you, and then had you pick a card. According to the back of the card, she's a part of the Iona Contemporary Dance Theater, which you can hire for your party.

Watching the Grass Grow by Susan Thomas.

A neat dress that looks like lava.

An octopus by Amanda Gagnon.

Lava and wave photographs.

This building's corners were lit up.

As were many of the balconies in this complex.

We got a shaka from a bus.

Friday night fireworks.

Starting my new laptop.

It's from Republic of Gamers. I bought a gaming laptop because the better CPU and more RAM will make Photoshop faster. You also want a GPU, although it being much faster doesn't matter much.

You can use Word and Excel for free, but they're only online. I'd rather pay for ones I can save on my computer and have backups of.

It has Windows 11, which has the Start Menu in the middle of the taskbar.

There are also a few programs I don't need, so I uninstall them.

Turn off all of the notifications as well.

The initial screen resolution is way too high; I dropped it down to 1920.

One of the first programs I install is Irfanview for editing images quickly.

Even though it's new, there are still many updates from when it was manufactured to today.

So many updates. From the operating system, the graphics card, and various other programs.

I kept restarting and checking for more updates until they were all done.

Supposedly only charging the battery to 80% is good for its long-term health, so I turned on Battery Care Mode.

One elevator is being upgraded, so only two are working. Normally it's not too busy, but on a Saturday at 10am, it's packed.

We needed to buy a Christmas tree stand.

And then pick up our tree. We decided to buy it from Habilitat, as the proceeds go to addiction treatment. They have fir trees imported from the west coast via Matson. Helemano Farms has locally-grown Leyland Cypress, Murray Cypress, and Norfolk Pine trees, so maybe we'll try them next year. And then Costco, Home Depot, City Mill, and other stores also carry trees.

Cutting the bottom.

And netting it for easier transport.

We didn't have a blanket to put down in the RAV4 to keep the needles from getting everywhere, but the Central Union Church Thrift Shop was nearby.

So we walked over there and bought some cheap sheets.

Along with some lights and a star.

A chicken with many babies.

This one jumped on her back.

The chicks usually stay pretty close.

They came over to say, "Hi."

That should work.

It fits perfectly.

Lunch at Siam Square Thai.

We recognized many of the pictures of Thailand.

No refunds if you order your food too spicy.

It was really good.

Ogii decorating the tree.

It looks good.

You can just see a bit of it from across the canal.

This place had a ton of lights.

The side of this building was lit up red and green.

Saturday night was Gothmass by Late Night Theatre Company Production at the university. Not for kids.

The program.

Staff.

And a few more.

We sat in front and got some prizes for participating.

It was a very small cast that performed in multiple stories. They were all great.

Sunday morning was the Honolulu marathon. We could see part of the route from our apartment.

A 360-degree rainbow.

We have guests coming, and some of the large blankets don't fit well in our washer, but there's a 24-hour laundromat a few blocks away.

These are larger washers that take 3x or 5x loads.

Someone left many cigarette filters in this washer. Don't want to use that one.

The dyers. A fair number of them were out of order.

You can buy little packets of detergent and dryer sheets.

A couple of quarter machines.

There were only a few machines that accepted credit cards; for most of them, you needed quarters.

People walking and biking home from the marathon.

Pretty clouds in the evening.
