2024 Dec 29 | Ogii family in Oahu - Nichiren Sect Mission, Hanauma Bay, Queen's Waikiki luau
Our first stop after getting back to Oahu on Sunday morning was the Nichiren Sect Mission.
Where we met Reverend Kanai and his wife Kumiko. Marico and her daughter were also visiting.
The women sat and chatted.
And the girls discussed shows.
Checking out the pond below.
Next we went to Hanauma Bay. One of the guides there said they have around 300 walk-in tickets per day, and they are only available first-come, first serve. The top gate opens at 6:45am, and all of the tickets were gone by 7:05am, really quickly, so it's a good thing we got the reserved tickets.
A few rain clouds wandering overhead.
They were all in the water snorkeling, so I covered our stuff with some beach towels.
It only rained for a few minutes; then back to sunny skies.
Everyone enjoying the water.
Ogii helping her sister snorkel.
Although most of the time, it looked like she was trying to hold her under.
They snorkeled all the way to the other side.
Happy afterwards.
Billy did a great job snorkeling, too.
Tsogt some some good pictures and videos of fish using the waterproof camera case.
Greg, Dagii, and Sarnai.
Chemka on the walk up.
With Billy.
One of the best views is about halfway up.
And one at the top.
Next we went to the International Marketplace for the Queen's Waikiki luau. This woman in front of us had a tattoo of some coordinates.
Google knows where it is.
Getting shell leis when we enter.
While they settled in, I went upstairs to drop off the rental car keys. If it's after hours, you have to go through this maze of corridors and an elevator by the security office to the dropbox.
I guess they thought if they left the drop box by the rental car kiosk, it'd be too easy for thieves to steal the keys? It's a pain walking all the way back here, though. At least they have a few extra pens to fill out the forms.
A light-up aloha sign.
Which overlooks the central area where the luau is.
Opening by blowing a conch shell.
A dance.
And then teaching attendees cultural activities scattered around the area.

Tsogt got one.
As did Chemka.
And Billy.
Tsogt got another.
And another.
All tatted up.

Teaching hula dancing.
Then they did it.
A guy cracking a coconut.
Dinner time.
Ready to eat.
A nice variety of food.
Dancers with oars.
Men.
Women.
Hula.
Men and women.
A view from above.
Fire knife dancers.
Women shaking their hips.
Teaching guys from the audience.
Side to side.
And kids from the audience dancing.
A few video clips.
Us with a big Christmas tree there.
Checking out a Japanese story.
With various toy machines.
Tsogt almost got it.
They have a room in the back.
With Pokemon cards.
Greg and Dagii in the big tree.
Close up.
And Chemka.
Close.
A guy out front had birds.
Chemka and I.
On her head.
Petting one.
Ogii and some people walked back home; I and a few others walked back to the RAV4, which was parked in the lot at the mall. I noticed it was quite warm inside, then noticed it was still on. We were in a hurry after the beach to get to the luau, and everyone was quite tired from long days and getting up early in the mornings for the flights, so it's understandable. Good thing nobody stole it.
