2025 Apr 27 | snorkeling at Three Tables and Shark's Cove, Wild Orange, The Pitt on HBO Max, Spam Jam

This Barq's root beer seems a little too obvious in Night Court.

There it is again.

And in another episode. This was in 1989; I don't remember knowing about product placement deals back then.

Red Creme? I've never heard of that.

Apparently it's another Barq's product.

I've also never heard of Nice.

Barq's is owned by Coke, and Slice is owned by Pepsi, so maybe they couldn't show the actual product due to the licensing contract.

The dad from Fresh Prince was in an episode of Night Court a year before the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

This is the title in the middle of the intro.

And this is at the end.

The first one is fuzzy around the middle letters in a few sections.

But the one at the end is clear.

The best part of making brownies is eating the leftover batter.

I don't care if the package says not to.

A rainbow.

Double one.

After searching for Viking Rhine river cruises, I got ads for them on YouTube. That looks beautiful.

Watching all of the cities go by from your cabin.

Eating on the roof outdoors so you don't miss the sights.

Wine tasting excursion.

That's a very enticing ad.

I'm not sure what Zamazon means. Googling says a few different things in video games, a cryptocurrency, and a closed British company.

A funny license plate.

Another one.

We started watching The Pitt on HBO Max. Only 10 minutes in and we have a leg degloving. Maybe going for a little shock value to get people hooked, although Ogii had to close her eyes because it was too disgusting.

Most of the stuff after that was pretty tame. A later episode had a bug in a woman's ear.

A cockroach.

I thought it was funny; Ogii thought it was terrifying.

I'm not looking forward to having to update my old laptop from Windows 10 to Windows 11, mainly because they removed many of the keyboard shortcuts in Windows Explorer, so you have to use the mouse more, but at least my computer will be able to handle it, according to this utility.

Cool car with fun license plate.

We went to north shore on Thursday night to snorkel. There are two beaches with snorkeling, Sharks Cove and Three Tables, which are right by each other. We parked between them.

First we went to Three Tables to the south.

Some rock cairns on the way.

This one has a big beach.

Those look like three tables.

Fish with a bright blue tail.

Me getting pictures.

Ogii got an artistic shot.

Ones with a bright orange stripe.

Another big group.

A video.

Some picnic tables up by the road.

And info panels.

Which name some of the fish.

The reef triggerfish is the state fish of Hawaii. It's Hawaiian name is humuhumunukunukuapua'a, which seems intimidating but is pretty easy to break up and remember: humu x 2, nuku x 2, a-pua-a. All vowels are 'u' with a few 'a' at the end. I remember it by moving top to bottom at the back of the fish's body: the top is neon orange, like a nuclear explosion, so "HUMan NUKe," with "U," which looks like a fish fin, as the only vowel. Each part doubled for the two fins on it's back. In the middle is a yellow triangle, so "A" which looks like a triangle tipped on its side. If you follow the leg of the triangle down to the back, you reach a little poo, so "PU." Then two more "A" for the second and third triangles, orange and yellow. Finally, two lines for the two legs of the yellow triangle, a kahako above the first "a" and an okina before the last "a."

Bigger animals.

My flipper clasp broke off again.

I like these adjustable ones and bought some additional clips I can put on as needed, but if it keeps breaking every time, it's not going to work.

A path along the ocean to walk north to Sharks Cove.

This kind of looks like a buried heart.

A little further along the path.

And we're here.

Shark's cove is much rockier.

There are only a few small areas that have a sandy entrance.

And the southern side is very shallow; you can barely snorkel.

More info on fish.

Waimea Bay, Three Tables, and Sharks Cove are part of the Pupukea Marine Life Conservation District.

The northern side of Sharks Cove has much deeper areas.

People throwing snorkeling gear down to their friends.

Ogii had a bandaid over a little cut. When we took it off to go in the water, we noticed the sand had gotten underneath it. The water should wash it all away.

There were more fish here than at Three Tables.

A large school.

Striped ones.

Me going down to get a closer look.

The bottom had channels of sand between the rocks in some areas.

Me swimming over to a huge school of fish.

They were swimming around in a circle.

They formed a moving wall.

Ogii by them.

A turtle eating coral. This one looks older; it's shell is discolored and its neck looks pretty rought.

Getting some air.

A second turtle which looks much younger.

Video.

Shark's Cove is better than Three Tables because you see many more animals, but it's much harder to get in and out of due to all of these rocks at the shore instead of a beach.

When you get close to the shore, the waves push you into the rocks.

Ogii scraped her knee a bit.

And I scraped my elbow.

Big rain cloud coming.

This is a very popular spot for tourists, so the locals put up tons of "private road" signs here.

There is also a food truck park.

A little store.

Snack shack.

Nice mural on the side.

Fish tacos.

Shave ice.

Coconuts and shrimp.

Surfboards and beach wear.

Another seating area with some games.

Another store.

Aerial view.

Some photo stand-ins. Ogii chose to be a mermaid.

Some more food trucks in the back.

Along with chickens.

I went with a burger from Seven Brothers. It's nice that the orders are nice words instead of numbers.

They also have a wooden QR code. Neat idea, but it seemed to have worn away enough that it doesn't work any more.

Distances to cities.

Ogii got Mexican.

There are a fair number of bees around, and one flew into my soda can, so I stuck a fork in as a ladder.

Which it eventually used to crawl out.

Then I put a napkin in the hole to block it off.

The bee tried to find a way in.

But couldn't.

A chicken checking out Ogii's food.

A basketball court.

With a beautiful view.

A mongoose running around.

A fallen tree between the two beaches forms a perfect bench.

For Ogii to sit on.

Low clouds over the ocean often block the sunrise and sunset in Hawaii.

Although there were a few nice rays above.

That looks like a pretty small lawn for a riding mower.

Fun license plate.

The internet kept saying Venus, Saturn, and a crescent moon would form a smiley face tonight, but I had my doubts as saturn is so dim. I was right; I can't see Saturn at all.

Ogii got a haircut. Before...

... and after.

Kathy did a great job.

Fun devil stick-ons around a Lexus symbol.

We went to Wild Orange on Friday night. It's a speakeasy inside of Hawaiian Brian's.

The entrance is hidden behind this fake vending machine.

You use a nickel from this table to open the door.

A video.

It's really neat inside, with tables for seating over here.

And a bar on the other side.

They had some interesting drinks. Ogii had an Easy Squeezy and I had a Springtime Sonder.

Second round: Grass-Hapa and Hold the Boba.

Steamed dumplings (so good we ordered a second serving) and cheesecake.

Ogii under the tree.

Back out of Wild Orange. Hawaiian Brian's has pool tables.

And other games over here.

Vending machines.

Fast food, although it's not being served now.

There are multiple separate areas inside of Hawaiian Brian's.

Crossroads was playing older music.

The Slack Key Lounge had a live band.

They have many shows here.

Back home to watch a carnival at the school across the canal.

It's packed.

And Friday night fireworks.

Watching more episodes of The Pitt.

The show is usually very accurate.

It was produced by R. Scott Gemmill, John Wells, and Noah Wyle, who had previously worked on ER, which was also praised for how realistic it was.

Performing a lateral canthotomy.

Gets the pressure down.

Traiging a mass shooting outside the hospital.

And treating the patients inside.

They also covered the issue of patients questioning doctors...

... due to what they're read on the internet.

And how the doctors try to combat that information.

Patient disbelieving.

Doctor getting frustrated.

Patient believing Google over the doctor. As Dr. Robinavitch said, "Fucking Dr. Google bullshit. They want medical treatment, but they don't want medical advice."

Children's Pain & Fever acetaminophen is 90% off at CVS. Too bad nothing we use is 90% off.

Spam Jam was on Saturday night. Fun logo.

They closed down Kalakaua Ave for many of these street fairs. Even though Google says the road is closed, many people were still trying to drive there, only to have to turn around.

A stage.

Ogii in a photo booth.

Very crowded.

Many food vendors.

Some live music.

Spam Jam clothing.

A dressed-up dog.

The lines were often very long.

BBQ.

Pineapple drinks.

Smash Burgers.

Most of the vendors had their usual items plus a few items with spam just for the festival.

I think I'll go for the one without Spam.

Deep fat frying fries and spam.

Ogii got some food from Gen Korean BBQ.

They all threw shakas.

And made the spam into the shape of a shaka.

It looks and tastes great.

Stopping by Mitsuwa Marketplace on the walk back home.

Photos of coffee thieves.

The first few seasons of Night Court were very real and emotional; they delved into some moving issues. The last few seasons haven't been that way at all, and now they're even putting cartoon characters in.

Here they had a computer bug that plays Super Mario Brothers, except Mario is jumping without anyone pressing any buttons, and the music is from Super Mario Brothers 2 rather than the first game, which the video is of.

Pretty sunset.

Not a good start on Worlde.

Everyone enjoying helping Mom with the Roku login.

A food truck serving Peruvian rotisserie chicken.

We got a double portion.

The food was great, and the truck gets great reviews.

Nice mural.

Another hot lava RAV4.
