2025 Jul 12 | Macy's, Broke Da Mouth Grindz, Ocean Film Fest, Made in Hawaii Artisan Market

I bought donuts for my new coworkers on my first day of work.

They also have malasadas.

I hope they like them.

Nice sunset.

Me getting a picture.

Darker colors later.

A couple of geckos walking on the fridge.

Another one licking his lips.

And looking at us.

The Pride of America arriving.

Looking at places to stay in Hilo. This one is clothing optional.

Nice, Food Truck Friday found a new home.

Our place had this portable air conditioner but no exhaust hose.

Most hoses are 5" but this one is 5.9."

I went to Home Depot and checked in their air conditioning section.

But they only have the smaller hoses.

They have larger window adapters, but we already have that. I guess I'll have to order a hose online.

This couple couldn't get this heavy box into the back of their pickup, so I helped them lift it in.

Stopping at Costco for a cheap slice of pizza, a hot dog, a drink, and a hot fudge sundae.

A very lifted yota on Ane Keohokalole Highway.

A few more vehicles.

It looks like a few people live in their cars here.

Full moon.

Above the ocean.

Rain.

And a rainbow.

Why is Ogii's coffee purple?

She put ube ice cream into it.

I only want a few Post-Its, but the small packs are other colors or super sticky, which I don't like, and the normal ones are only in these huge packs.

A cute cat in a window.

Another Hot Lava RAV4.

With the license plate HOT LVA.

I like the name of the Love Aloha Eye Care optometry office, along with the long leis in the windows.

This 24k, 140W Anker power bank was on a big sale at Target, but it was sold out. I want a couple so we can charge our laptops while traveling if we have no other power source around.

They had another one that was just slightly better, 25k, 165W, but it was more expensive and not on sale.

Ogii found a little shelf for the bathroom.

We drove up to Macy's. It's weird seeing one all alone rather than connected to a mall.

There used to be a movie theater nearby.

But it closed.

The Waikoloa movie theater is much farther north.

Ogii found some clothes she liked.

Let's shop in the 80% off section.

A few more items.

And a few more.

This road is blocked off. I wonder if the Macy's will stay open; it seemed pretty empty when we were there.

Ogii got a massage here from the guy we met at the firefighter's 4th of July pancake breakfast.

Then we had dinner at Broke Da Mouth Grindz.

They have lots of good plates.

It's not too busy now, three mintues after they opened.

But in the 10 minutes we were waiting for our food, it filled up.

Famous visitors.

Funny chickens.

Fun sign.

Really good food.

We ordered these bedside nightstands on Amazon. Ogii put this one together by herself.

The pieces of the next one.

All done.

A huge cooler.

I don't think that's the price of the cooler.

That's more like it.

Uh oh, the power buttons on the driver's door fell in a bit.

Yota.

The Made in Hawaii artisan market, every second Saturday at Kona Commons.

Booths.

More.

And more.

Stained glass.

Paintings.

More booths on the other side.

Marvels of Hawaii was our favorite booth.

Someone had told me their macademia nut brittle is really good. Unfortunately, they were out and only had samples left.

But they still had plenty of other products, including a variety of vinegars.

We bought some passion fruit tea, habiscus tea, macademia nut butter toffee, and chocolate rasperry vinegar.

Ogii trying a few more free samples.

A license plate.

Ogii had seen some pants she liked at Macy's but didn't buy them, so we went back the next day. Of course, she can't just grab the pants and go; she has to shop some more.

Some nice aloha shirts.

By Kahala.

Although the fabric feels more plasticy than fabricy. It's 86% rayon, 14% polyester.

Whereas the normal ones are half cotton, half polyester.

Other designs.

Neat coffee cups.

With a spoon designed to sit on the cup edge.

Drippin license plate. Also from Montana.

Saturday night we went to the Elk's Lodge.

For the Ocean Film Festival. There were some tables up front with different conservation groups.

There was also a bulletin board with other events.

Pizza and poker night.

Daily activities.

A room with pool tables.

Some items for sale.

Checking out the tables.

There were a few different ones.

This one you had to match the coral.

Ogii got them!

They all kind of look the same to me.

They have a theater there to watch the films.

Raffle donors.

Partners.

Other thanks.

Ready to watch the movies with some dinner.

Some introductions.

A local politician.

They had three short local films: The Last Opeluman, about a man who still makes his own nets by hand to fish.

Mano, an animated film about a shark through time with different Hawaiian events.

And Kahu Mano, about sharks.

A few more people talked.

About saving sharks.

Then was the full-length movie, Ocean with David Attenborough, which discussed how the oceans had been damaged and how they were recoving in some locations.

Hawaii was one location the movie highlighted.

He has such a great voice.
