2025 Nov 09 | Waikoloa petroglyphs, Kings and Queens shops, movie theater, yoga at Honl's Beach

Waikoloa Village is a little town with a golf course and a grocery store, mainly for locals, and is more inland. Waikoloa Beach Resort is another set of buildings which is more for tourists and closer to the ocean. It also has a golf course and grocery store, but also multiple hotels and two outdoor malls, including a movie theater.

Parking in the shade.

Our first stop was the Kaikoloa Petroglyph Reserve.

It's just a short walk from the parking lot.

And is surrounded by a golf course.

Some info.

Memorial.

Condos along the golf course.

A little bathroom.

It has a picture of some petroglyphs.

Well now I've seen them; I don't even need to go into the field.

A map of the field.

There's only a very simple path to follow.

Me in the middle of it.

Ogii to the other side.

Golf course and condos on the other side.

Most of them were circles and triangles.

A few looked like people.

And some were obviously recent.

There were also a few cave shelters.

This area was off limits, but there was another path that circled around to the side.

More circles.

More people. This is the one that was in the bathroom picture.

A turtle.

Me with it.

More circles.

More people.

One path leads out to the golf course, which had a few geese.

And also a bottle cap beside the golf cart path.

And a cigarette butt.

More geese.

They didn't seem to mind the golfers.

A bit more trash I picked up on the walk.

Trail to the Kings' Shops.

A small putting green.

With reef triggerfish art.

Info plaque.

Sea turtle sculpture.

And info on them.

The Kings' Shops.

A map.

List of the stores.

I wonder how much that place costs to rent per night.

There was a small general store.

I feel these are about three to four times more expensive than they were at Walmart.

Various other shops.

Mural of traditional life.

Another.

Photo spot.

Chirstmas tree ornament.

Animated talking Santa.

Then we walked over to the Queens' Marketplace, which is larger.

Ogii by the fountain.

And Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar mural.

People eating there.

The Island Gourmet Markets grocery store here is much bigger than the Kings' one.

Buffet.

Meat.

Ogii enjoying the coolness of the dairy section.

Many different pancake mixes.

There was a Macaroni Grill.

But it closed a few months ago.

Ogii checking out some earrings.

Neat door.

A large parking lot in the back. I didn't know this was here; we parked in the small one in the front.

This space is empty.

As are a few of these.

This one has a new business coming.

There's a second story, but that's more professional businesses, like a dentist.

Pagoda top.

Sculpture of kids.

A pond.

With koi.

More stores.

Surfboard door handles.

Lava Light Galleries.

Some cool photos.

Prices.

I see this picture of the turtle sticking its head above water all the time.

It was taken by Phil Waller.

Waikoloa Luxury Cinemas is one of two movie theaters on the western side of Big Island; the other is Regal Keauhou to the south. There's also one on the eastern side at the Hilo mall.

Outdoor seating.

They have three screens.

And serve food in the theater. If you don't sit in your seat, no complaining if someone else gets your food.

The theater.

Our food.

The lights at the edge of the walls and ceiling stayed on for a bit.

But thankfully turned off before it got too far into the movie.

The artwork of lava behind the bar is cool.

A few other stores.

A little vehicle, probably only for driving around in this resort.

Sunday morning we went to Honl's Beach at Wai'aha Beach Park.

For yoga.

Afterwards, one woman handed out fresh limes to everyone.

A little shrine.

Flowers in a tree.

Some guys cooking.

The beach.

This house has a great view.

Many yellow fish in the water.

A fallen tree stump with many holes in it.

These big bugs were flying in and out of the holes.

Some ants and maggots below the tree.

On the other side of the beach.

The currents are strong here.

A small painting.

Info on the oldest know paipo board.

Which is an old surfboard.

From the 1600s.

The volcano started at 11am.

It's getting quite big.

But then it stopped only five hours later.

Ogii giving her hands a rest from holding her phone by holding it with her knees.

I'm cleaning in the bathroom and the Roomba decided to come in. I better get out of its way.

A beam of yellow before sunset.

Followed by pink.

Nice rays.
