2011 Oct 14 | Pee Wee's Big Adventure and Beetlejuice drink-along at Downtown Independent

Don't see many of the rounded buses.

A little square downtown that has events at times

We use an auto-refractor to get an estimate of a person's prescription. However, this one was always way off. For example, the left eye here is -2.75 -3.25 according to the auto-refractor, but it really was closer to -1.00 -2.50.

Thankfully we got it changed out for this one, which is much more accurate. Same brand and model, but the other one must have been calibrated wrong or something.

So much to do. And every time I get something done and erase it something else inevitably takes its place. And this is only my immediate to-do list; I have two more that can wait a bit.

I've been keeping an eye out for a beer stein if I go to an Oktoberfest celebration here. This one looks interesting.

Ah, it's a World of Warcraft collector item. Cool, but in the end too heavy, and now you can't have glass at a lot of places, so I don't think it would work.

A sign-spinning guy dressed up as Freddy Krueger.

My favorite pencils. At least, the one on the right, which is the older design. I don't like the new ones on the left as much. Sign, nothing I can do, though.

So they can legally put these on my car, but then I can't just take them off and drop them on the ground because that would be littering. So they're forcing me to do the extra work of holding onto it and then throwing it away. I hate these things so much.

Hmm... maybe chess Grand Master?

I hate when they don't allow you to do things on your phone.

Google Maps thinks Alvarado is the best choice. It might be a little faster, but Union is so much closer and probably almost as fast. Plus, it's often a big pain to turn right from Alvarado because of all the people in the crosswalk. And it might even be slower because it's rush hour. I wonder how Google Maps decides which road to take.

Ooh, a soccer field. I wonder if I can play there.

They really don't want people coming in here.

There really aren't any LA Weekly stands near me, so if I want one, I have to go out of my way. This one is close to the Farmer's Market, where I work on Fridays, which would be perfect because the LA Weekly comes out on Thursday. But this one is always empty when I get there, sigh.

Hmm... I don't think I can quite fit in any of those spots.

Hey, look, those people did fit in. Although they're all practically touching.

Saturday night was another drink-along at the Downtown Independent.

The first movie was Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. I remember always being scared of the scenes where he gets a ride.

And the second one was Beetlejuice.

The drinking cues.

It's only about a 15-minute walk from my place to the movie theater and parking can sometimes be a bit of a pain to find, so sometimes I'll walk. A lot of bums sleep in this tunnel.
