2024 Jan 26 | Los Angeles Hollywood sign with palm trees, Cabazon Outlets

The heater in the motel didn't work. It wasn't too cold at night, so I didn't bother trying to fix it but in the morning, it was rather cold. I noticed the light for the power wasn't on.

As easy as hitting the reset button.

Now it warms up fast.

Even a bit frosty on the car.

Breakfast.

Plenty of parking at The Grove at 6:30 in the morning.

We went there to get a sunrise picture of downtown LA from the rooftop.

With the Grove sign.

Looking the other way with the moon.

The mall.

You can see the Hollywood sign.

And Griffith Observeratory.

Here comes the sun.

Looking down into the mall, there are doors and windows on the upper right side but I'm not sure if there's anything actually in there.

Chinese New Year display.

Closer.

Neat dragons.

Over at the Farmer's Market.

This statue is still there.

As is this meat market.

The K-Mart across the street was torn down, but they're building something there.

Pretty walkway.

They trolley.

Sorry, honey, not open yet.

A small store out in the middle all by itself.

The Apple store has so much space.

A statue of a boy fishing in the pond.

Sprinkles Cupcakes is right by the garage. That's a good place; that's something people would grab right as they're leaving.

The valet area is very nice.

Painting this building bright pink.

There are a lot of very expensive houses in the Hancock Park neighborhood.

Another one.

And another.

We went to 411 Windsor South Blvd

To get this picture of the Hollywood sign surrounded by palm trees.

Looking up.

It looks like they're shooting a movie there, too.

I didn't recognize the actors.

Cute signs.

I don't remember seeing this sign before; I wonder if it's new?

More homeless now.

A had an online meeting with the company I'm doing some remote consulting for.

I think I'm the first optometrist to join the group. I got recommended to this by the person who approves contact lenses at my current job. She's a general MD, not an ophthalmologist, so I explained a ton about contact lenses to her, which she really appreciated.

Mountains and palm trees.

At the Cabazon Outlets east of Los Angeles.

Ogii is ready to shop.

At Columbia.

This woman had cool hair.

They gave Ogii a coupon for $20 off $100. Today she only spent $99.65, so next time, she'll have to spend just a little bit more if she wants to use the coupon.

Wait a second; another Columbia store?

This one is much more sparse.

There's not even ten stores between the two Columbia stores.

When I lived in northern and southern California, those were the only two areas we really thought about. Central California is really only considered a separate area by central Californians.

Hawaiian shave ice.

So many stores, but not too many people shopping yet.

Although there is a line for Gucci.

I don't see very many Vilebrequin stores. Those are the swim trunks we won playing volleyball in LA.

Lots of colors.

Normally they're $300; at the outlet, they're $200.

But in the back they had some clearance ones.

For $80. Still expensive for swim trunks, but much better than $300.

They even had a matching set.

With the mountains in the back.

Food court.

This pizza and pasta is similar to what I loved to get at the mall in Aberdeen, and I still love it.

This woman bought a ton of stuff.

All of the 80s and 90s stuff is coming back. New Kids on the Block disbanded in 1994, but in 2007, they got back together and have toured and released albums. I wonder how different they sound.

More shopping.

I try to herd Ogii to the clearance sections.

Saks Off 5th.

They all have the same layout.

Ogii likes this skin cream brand.

You have to be careful in here, though. See some funky pants?

Still nearly $400.

There we go; the clearance items.

$35 is much more reasonable.

A cool dress. It's in the $60 section.

But the tag says $90. That's what it rang up as, but Ogii got it for $60 because it was in the wrong section.

A nice pond with small waterfalls.

Me taking a picture of a family there.
